Referendum Cake Stall – we need everyone’s help!

Saturday 14th October is the day of the referendum on the Voice to Parliament. It’s an important day for Australia, and it’s also an important fundraising day for the school.

Every voting day, Syndal South becomes a polling station and the Parents’ Association and School Council take advantage of the large number of community members coming onto school grounds to run a cake stall and a sausage sizzle.

To make the cake stall successful, we would love everyone to make a cake, or some biscuits, slices, jams, or chutneys and bring it to the school for us to sell on voting day.  If every family makes one item, we will have a bountiful table of goods for sale, and it will raise a lot of money for the new library.

You can bring your homemade goodies to us at the following times:

  • Friday 13th October 8.30am – 11am (school office)
  • Friday 13th October 2pm-4pm (school office)
  • Saturday 14th October before 9.30am (cake stall on the basketball court)

A few things to remember:

  • Only home-made cakes, biscuits and jams … nothing bought from a store.
  • Nothing that needs to be kept in the fridge.  We can’t keep cakes cold so no cream or custard in your cakes please!
  • Write the production date and ingredients on a tag and stick it onto your homemade goodies. We must do this by law and people with allergies will also thank you.
  • Make it pretty! Wrap it up with clear plastic and a bit of ribbon and make it look great.  It will sell faster! (Need some help with this? Drop into the office on Friday and the PA volunteers will help with packaging.)
  • Please register your cake with a volunteer when you drop it off at the office or the cake stall.

Speaking of Volunteers …

Yes, of course we would like some help with the stalls on voting day and we also need help with the packaging and registration of the goods on the Friday.

Do you have some time to help?  If you would like to give us some of your precious time, please sign up with for a shift (or two 😊).  Links are below:

There’s always a great atmosphere at the school on voting days.  People wait in line for quite a while, so they really want a sausage or a nice cake at the end of it.  Volunteering at these events is a great way to meet other parents at the school, as well as community members.  It’s only a couple of hours so please consider doing a shift with us. We would LOVE to see you there!

Thank you,
