Principal's Report

This term has been jam packed with excitement for our students - we have been travelling far and wide to compete in sporting competitions, dance competitions and equestrian competitions, just to name a few. We are so fortunate to have such talented and gifted students in our College and we would like to congratulate each and every one of them for their hard work and dedication.

Our Kildare Campus has successfully completed a full term onsite! The next stage of building works is well under way, with the framework and roofing in plain sight.

Our Year 12 students are heading towards the pointy end of their secondary school journey, with practice exams taking place next week at the College before they complete their final weeks at school next term. I trust these holidays serve as good preparation time for them. Other students also have the opportunity to catch up on their assessment tasks, study or homework during this break.

Over the past few weeks there has been some whispering and some loud chatter about some of our signage at the College. As a Kildare Education Ministries school in the Brigidine tradition, we are committed to supporting the marginalised and vulnerable in our community. This takes many forms. On October 14, Australians will be required to vote in the referendum on The Voice. This is a significant historical moment that will enshrine First Nations’ voice in the Constitution.

We believe the 'oldest continuous culture in the world, is to be celebrated as a gift'. The Voice to Parliament is a first step towards a better Australia. It is one that unites us, and one that respects and dignifies our First Nations people.

St Joseph's College has a strong Brigidine charism, and we stand in support of the referendum to enshrine the voice of our First Nations people in the Constitution. However, we also respect there are many views and opinions on the upcoming referendum and we support the sharing of those views in a respectful and dignified manner.

As a College, we encourage students to be creative and critical thinkers and we will continue to provide them with information to help them make an informed decision on polling day that aligns with their individual values.

I take this opportunity to wish all students and families a restful break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in term four to finish 2023 off strong.

God Bless.
