Beacon Events Term 3

Pathways Pledge Ceremony

During Term 3, the Year 10 students participated in their final Beacon event for 2023, the Pathways Pledge Ceremony at the Echuca Twin Rivers Specialist School.   

Students from all five Beacon schools, along with sponsors, supporters and members of the community, joined together to celebrate the Real Futures program. 

The keynote speaker was former Rochester local Jason McCurry. Jason shared his inspiring career journey from sports and event management, to Senior Youth Programs Coordinator at Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) and what drives his passion for inclusion and advocacy for people with a disability and other minority groups.

The Pathways Pledge is a public commitment, where students acknowledge that they are ready to make the most of their futures, and that they will have open minds when considering their career pathways. Community members are invited to pledge their support in assisting our young people in their journey. 

Students signed the pledge board in the evidence of their commitment to the pledge, and the board is displayed in the Tullow wing of St Joseph’s College. 

We thank our 2023 Beacon Leaders for helping with hosting the event – Layne Trevena, Cora Wilson, Olivia Batchelor, Jaxon Bourke, Bodhi Griffiths, Maisy Byrne, Grace Riddell and Paige Simpson.

Mock Interviews

On Friday 25 August, the Year 9 Personal Best classes participated in their mock interviews. These interviews are made possible by the incredible support of local industry/businesses who volunteer their time to interview our students in a simulated job interview setting.

Students presented to the interviewer with a resume and job application letter. All interviews go for approximately 15 minutes and students are given feedback on their job application, resume and interview.

A big thank you once again, to our Beacon Leaders and Cath Elms from Beacon who helped make the day run smoothly.
