Exo Day - A Resounding Success at The King’s College
Article by Mrs Beulah Paul | English Teacher
We are delighted to share that the annual event for secondary students at The King’s College, Exo Day, was an overwhelming success. The theme for this year’s event was “We are One,” and it was executed well with the assistance of a dedicated team from the College and Nations Church.
The day commenced with our Chapel service for secondary students, which included a special invitation extended to Year 6 students. This provided them with a glimpse into the secondary chapel experience. We are pleased to share that a few students made a personal commitment to follow Christ during this time.
Following Chapel, Year 11 and 12 students engaged in their final Christian Education session for the year. This exclusive session commenced with an enjoyable time of games and activities, followed by an inspiring message centered around the theme of unity and friendship. Both boys and girls actively participated in a split Q&A session, where numerous pertinent questions were asked and answered in a relevant and relatable manner.
After recess, all secondary students had the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions with their peers. These sessions included group games, biblical teachings aligned with the event’s theme, and captivating stories shared by youth leaders from Nations Church. This valuable learning experience fostered personal growth and strengthened bonds among our students.
During lunchtime, the College Oval transformed into a vibrant hub of activity and enjoyment. The perfect weather conditions set the stage for an unforgettable experience as food trucks served delectable burgers, chips on a stick, tacos, bubble teas, and ice creams. Entertainment options were abundant, including Staff FOG, Commando slip n slide, basketball, volleyball, and many more activities that kept our students engaged throughout the day. The atmosphere around the college was filled with joy and a sense of freedom!
The pinnacle of the day’s energy and excitement culminated in a grand Praise Party. This year’s Praise Party was our biggest MOSH PIT EVER! Students were given reasons to celebrate the freedom we have in Christ and how life with God can be incredibly fulfilling. As the curtains closed on this memorable day, our Year 12 students brought down the house with their favourite songs, making it an unforgettable finale to their last Chapel experience.
Generosity Day
In Week 8, our Year 7 students spent the morning volunteering to give back to the local community. Students were divided into four locations – Salvation Army, Sunshine Op Shop, Providence Permaculture and the College grounds.
Activities included planting flower beds, making sandwiches for people experiencing homelessness, wrapping gifts for children who would not usually receive Christmas gifts and making hygiene packs for people who didn't have enough money to buy essentials like toothpaste, soap and hair shampoo.
Overwhelming, the students commented that they loved helping and wished they could do activities like they did every day.
Perth Observatory
On September 8, a group of twenty Year 10 students attended an excursion to the Perth Observatory. This excursion provided students in the King's ATAR Prep for Science (KAPS) class, as well as others who are interested in astronomy, the opportunity to have first-hand experience of observations made in our own city of the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies. Students were marvelled by the clear observation of Saturn among other objects in the night sky and enjoyed a night of star gazing and fun together.
Year 11 Camp - Be The Light!
Mrs Angelique Watson | Head of Year 11
It is with great excitement and fond memories that we share the highlights of our Year 11 Camp held earlier this term. The camp was an incredible journey, filled with camaraderie, personal growth, and a whole lot of adventure!
Students arrived at the picturesque Forest Edge Recreation Camp on Wednesday of Week 6 and immediately got involved in the adrenaline-pumping activities the campsite had to offer. Students were divided into four groups to have a go at abseiling, pamper pole, billy carts, target shooting, giant fox, spider's web, and an island bush walk, scheduled over the three action-packed days. Activities were kicked off each time with a game of sports and "Boot Scootin' Baby" pumping loudly through the speakers, with activity leaders leading a line dance that all students were encouraged to get involved in (Mrs Watson's favourite part of camp!)
The camp's theme was "Be The Light", and on the first night, Mrs Watson gave a devotion on this from Matthew 5:14, "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." Students spent some time reflecting on how they planned to be the light in a dark world – a beautiful moment that had them demonstrating maturity and empathy. It was evident that these students were going to be world-changers!
On the second night, students enjoyed a thrilling night walk and music by the huge campfire that Mr Jacobsz and Jaxon W lit for the group – a special time of relaxation and bonding for the cohort.
As we reflect on the Year 11 camp, it's clear that it was much more than just a series of outdoor activities. It was a chance for our students to push their boundaries, form lasting bonds with their peers, and discover their inner strengths. These experiences have not only created lifelong memories but also instilled important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and resilience.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated camp staff – Mr 't Hart, Mr Jacobsz, Miss Rudd, Miss Williams, and Mrs De Piazza - who made this adventure possible. Their expertise and enthusiasm played a significant role in making this camp a resounding success. The Year 11 camp was a remarkable journey of self-discovery and growth, and we look forward to seeing how these experiences shape our students' futures and allow them to "be the light".
