Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)

Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)

Each year, students in Grades 1 to 6 complete online Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT). These assessments support the current year’s teachers in building a picture of where students are currently at and support the following year's teacher in planning for the next year. The Progressive Achievement approach to learning identifies student needs, targets teaching and monitors learning growth and progress over time. The approach helps all students show progress in their learning.

Students in Grade 1 and 2 complete a Reading and Maths assessment, while students in Grades 3-6 complete Reading, Maths, Vocabulary and Spelling. These assessments will be conducted over the next 2 weeks. We have also factored in catch up days, for those students who may be absent. Students will only complete one test per day.

The PAT testing process will be explained to all students and should not be seen as a stressful “pass or fail” assessment. Students will be encouraged to view the tests as a way for teachers to learn more about their capabilities and then design teaching that will help them improve.

More than half of all Australian schools use PAT to target teaching and improve student learning. It establishes what students are capable of, then challenges them at the appropriate level for effective learning.
