Green Team

Green Team held our annual clothes swap this term in week 8. It was a huge success with students and teachers bringing in clothing donations and swapping clothes with others. As well as encouraging students to consider secondhand clothing, students made pledges to the environment as inspired by Clean Up Australia.

Fast fashion and overconsumption are big contributors to climate change. Buying second hand is a great way to save money and make a positive impact in reducing your carbon footprint. Did you know the average Australian buys 15kg of new clothing a year (approx. 52 new items)? The average person also throws out 36kg of clothing a year which ends up in landfill. Clothing textiles are not recyclable in your kerbside recycling, but you can donate unwanted clothes to an op shop (Sacred Heart, Salvos, Brotherhood of St Laurence etc.). You can also take clothing that’s no longer suitable to H&M for recycling, who recycle them into textile fibres and insulation. Check out the details in the website:

Thanks so much for everyone’s involvement! Keep making positive changes.

Green Team meetings are at lunchtime on Tuesdays in Gold Week. Bring your lunch, bring a friend and see what we’re up to!
