Wellbeing

Purpose    I    Positive Emotions    I   Relationships   I   Meaning    I    Accomplishment

Our wellbeing focus is derived from the evidence based Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum (developed by a team from the Youth Research Centre, Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne). There may be also some references made to The Resilience Project and Cyber Safety resources.

In 2016, Respectful Relationships education became a core component of the Victorian Curriculum from Foundation to Year 12 and is being taught in all Government and Catholic schools and many independent schools. A core element of this initiative is the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) curriculum.  Efforts to promote social and emotional skills and positive gender norms in children and young people have been shown to improve health-related outcomes and subjective wellbeing. It also reduces antisocial behaviours including engagement in gender-related violence.

In Term 4, Year 6 students will be looking at Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships, Unit 6: Help Seeking.

Activities in this unit will assist students to:

  • Assess whether they need help with any situation
  • Think about trust and courage
  • Rehearse help-seeking conversations
  • Communicate clearly
  • Manage 'roller coaster' days.

In Term 4, our students are hesitant, nostalgic and excited, all at the same time because they are so close to completing their primary school journey. The transition to Year 7 is made more successful when families sit down and talk through the 'roller coaster' emotions that are likely to come up.

Teachers are very careful to protect the privacy of all individuals and will stop any personal sharing of experiences. We encourage you to continue these wellbeing discussions at home, engaging in conversations about what your child has been learning in their wellbeing sessions.  If you have any concerns about topics raised, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
