Strength in Community
If you were ever wondering what sets our College apart from other independent schools, I would say it is our sense of community. This was truly evident last Thursday when we held our Annual House Swimming Carnival for Years 7-12 at SOPAC and our Stage 3 Cross-Country Carnival here at school.
The students who are in attendance love this day. There is a strong sense of camaraderie and those that are there all get involved. In the schools that I have worked in previously, lots of students sit in the stands and do not participate. Not true for this College as our students love to get out there and swim and run. They participated in the novelty events and cheered each other on. For some students, getting out there and running or swimming can be quite daunting. However, here at St Patrick’s I will always cherish the cheers from the crowd and the encouragement from our staff for all our competitors no matter how good they are at swimming or running. Of course, we do produce outright champions and there is something to be said for having the privilege of being able to watch Jack Taylor glide through the water.
Jack was our Open Age Champion and is a national swimmer. He makes it look so effortless, and we wish him and the SPC Swim Team all the best as they approach the ISA Carnival in a few weeks’ time.
A special thank you to Mr Locke, Mr Davidson, Mr Boggs and Ms Durance for all the hard work they put into running both carnivals.
