Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

Assessment Handbooks
Assessment Handbooks can be accessed by parents/carers through the TASS Parent Lounge. Students have access through their respective CANVAS Year Meeting pages. Please note that the handbook will be updated each term in preparation for the following terms assessment tasks.
Assessment is the broad name for the collection and evaluation of evidence of a student’s learning. It is integral to teaching and learning and has multiple purposes. In Stage 3, assessments are explained, clarified and integrated into the lessons for the relevant subject areas. Our core assessment tasks assess a student's knowledge, understanding and skills. Pre-task notifications are available for students via the subject CANVAS page, with at least two-weeks' notice given for students to prepare for, revise and/or work on their assessment tasks.
Year 5 Parents' Cocktail Evening
The SPC Parents’ and Friends’ Association are hosting the Year 5 Parents’ Cocktail Evening on Friday 28 February from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at the College. Parents/carers are asked to complete the RSVP on the invitation on the College App. Year 5 staff look forward to another opportunity to meet our families and welcome you to the College.
Mathematics Classes
As has been communicated previously, all students have now been placed in a Mathematics group. The table below provides an overview of how our approach meets each learner at their point of need. The Academic Assessment Services (AAS) and ACER Progressive Achievement Testing (PAT-Maths) have been used to form these classes. These groups are therefore fluid as ongoing data is obtained and analysed along with teacher judgement. Teachers differentiate within their class to ensure that all students are provided with the opportunity to work to their potential.

Year 5 2025
Hear from our Year 5 classes as each class reflects on their experiences so far at SPC.
5 Black | Learning is fun! It is engaging and at times it can be challenging. The teachers have been helping us improve and they guide us along the way. |
5 Blue | Learning is challenging, fun, inclusive, and is helpful to us academically. SPC is a fun environment to be in, especially the facilities and history of the school. We have made many friends in a short space of time. |
5 Gold | We like the space in the College and areas to play. We also enjoy the library and opportunities to learn about many different subjects. We look forward to making new friends as each day passes. |
5 Green | Although the rules and uniform standards are strict, we enjoy being given the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy our learning inside the classroom. |
5 Orange | Our first weeks at SPC were challenging at times, but we found lunchtimes and all the subjects extremely enjoyable. We love spending time with our new classmates and getting to know each other better. |
5 Red | We’re really enjoying the new friendships we’ve made, especially with the Senior House Captains we met at the house rallies. The sports opportunities here are fantastic, and our library teacher always makes us laugh! |
5 White | SPC offers a wide range of learning and sporting opportunities that allow us to let our light shine in every possible way. No matter where we come from, we can become role models, entering as boys and leaving as young men. |
