Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

It was great to finally get the boys out on the fields and courts last Saturday to officially start the Primary Summer season. Our results were mixed, however, and showed great improvement against some quality opposition. I look forward to seeing our strong start blossoming over the coming weeks. Keep working hard at training boys and the rewards are bound to come.
When it comes to representing the College in sport, it is the whole community that contributes to maintenance and continued development of our reputation. St Patrick’s has always had the reputation of playing hard and tough, but fair. We have been seen as supportive of our teams and respectful of our opposition. In order to keep this reputation, it is important that parents/carers do not engage with opposition players or their parents on the sidelines. If there are any issues, coaches are there to sort the boys out and work through problems with coaches. Parents/carers should only be positive in all their interactions with their sons and College teams and refrain from any behavior that may be perceived as combative or aggressive.
On Thursday 13 February, all the boys in the Junior School were involved in the annual House Cross Country Carnival. It was exciting to see so many boys push themselves to complete the tough course and raise money for those less fortunate. Congratulations to our Age Champions:
Under 10 | Orlando Iannuzzi |
Under 11 | Aston Barilla |
Under 12 | William Symonds |
And we also congratulate Hanrahan House for taking out the overall carnival win. This is the first time that Hanrahan has won the cross-country carnival in the past 11 years. Well done Hanrahan!
Cultural Co-curricular activities (non- sporting) are now calling for expressions of interest. The following activities are available:
Chess - Friday afternoon competitions, parents/carers must be able to drive students to venues in line with Saturday sport commitments. Training before school on Tuesdays.
Debating – Friday afternoon debates in school time, training Wednesday afternoons. Boys can be involved in sport and participate in Debating.
Junior School Justice (JSJ) – Meet every Wednesday afternoon regarding justice issues that affect the Junior School. Boys can participate in JSJ and sport.
Sign-up sheets are available outside Mr Locke’s office all this week. Depending on numbers, boys may need to trial for Chess and Debating. More information will follow after the sign-up period has concluded.
‘I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted with to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. ‘AND THAT IS WHY I SUCCEED.’
