Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG)

We've had a great start to our 2025 SAKG program which is now going for the entire year with the students in Year 3-6! Yippee!
We welcome Ms McIlroy as the garden specialist and are excited about the plans she has for increasing our sustainability here at WMPS. She even cared for our single remaining chicken over the holidays and then sourced 3 more chooks to keep Henny Penny company at school and they seem to have settled in well. Not sure which one is at the top of the pecking order though! It will be great to have a supply of eggs again to use in the kitchen.
Year 3/4 students have had a couple of introductory/revision sessions to learn where things are in the kitchen and garden and the routines and rules that are in place to ensure smooth sessions. They have started to learn some knife skills and wheelbarrow skills in the garden.
Students in Year 5/6 have continued kitchen and garden activities, although due to the heat haven't been able to be out in the garden over the past 2 weeks. They have been busy learning how to collect seeds and make newspaper pots as well as harvesting what has been needed for the kitchen. Mrs Fuller even popped in to see how we were going!
Our menus have had an international flavour... last week we enjoyed baked spring rolls, chicken and ginger wontons and an Asian coleslaw. This week we sampled delicious middle eastern cuisine - pita bread, hummus, falafels and tabbouleh.
Recipes are below to be downloaded and enjoyed at home.
