Deputy Principal Reports

A Fantastic Start to 2025!
It has been a wonderful start to the school year, with students settling in well and engaging positively in their learning.
Year 7: Transitioning to High School with Confidence
Our Year 7 students have embraced high school life with enthusiasm, adapting to new routines and forming new friendships. A highlight of the term so far has been Year 7's first Year Group excursion where students enjoyed an action-packed day alongside their Year Adviser and staff. The day provided an opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build teamwork skills, and grow while participating in a variety of exciting activities. Despite the weather, all who attended had a fantastic time.
Year 7 has also been actively involved in the Peer Support Program, where they have worked closely with student leaders on activities designed to help them navigate the transition to high school and feel a sense of belonging in our school community.
Year 9: Engaged and Focused
Year 9 has also had a positive start to the year and is now well into their courses, enjoying the opportunity to participate in their chosen electives. As we move further into the term, students are completing their first assessment tasks, and we encourage everyone to stay on top of deadlines. If students need any support, they should reach out to their teachers for guidance.
Year 9 also has their first excursion of the year coming up soon, which will be a great opportunity for students to further engage with their learning in an exciting and interactive way.
Year 11: Building a Strong Foundation for the Future
Our Year 11 students have made a positive start to their senior studies, with many also undertaking TAFE courses to expand their skills and knowledge. Year 11 moves quickly, as students have only three terms before transitioning into their final year of schooling. It is important that they stay organised, committed, and proactive in their studies to build a strong foundation for Year 12.
We encourage Year 11 students to take advantage of opportunities that will assist them with their future careers or further studies, such as university days, career talks, and the Careers Expo. Seeking support when needed and staying engaged in their learning will help set them up for success.
Attendance Matters!
A reminder to all students that attendance is essential. Students should be at school every day unless they are unwell. If absent, please ensure that a note or explanation is provided to the front office.
We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to continuing to support all students in making 2025 a successful and rewarding year!
Nagangbi ngayagang Jenni Bullock - hello, I am Jenni Bullock, in the Dharawal language.
My role within the school is Deputy Principal for Year 8, 10 and 12 students. As a Wonnarua woman, I am very proud to lead Aboriginal Education in addition to my work as Deputy Principal. I also teach Stage 5 Aboriginal Studies this year, an exciting opportunity offered to our students, for the first time at TRHS.
Term one is nearly over and I can't quite believe it! The time has certainly flown by, which is a relevant reminder to Year 12 students in particular that you are almost there. Only two more terms to go. So, it is time to knuckle down, focus on study and be determined to complete this chapter in your story with the best possible outcome you can manage. We're all behind you, so please make sure to reach out if there is anything you need from us in support of your goals. Don't forget to start thinking about and discussing your transition pathway with our transition team so that you meet University and TAFE application deadlines, or maybe get a jump on employment when you've finished. Whatever your path, our transition team are happy to guide you.
Years 8 and 10 students have had quite a solid start to the year. I've been able to see many students doing great work in classes and being active and responsible students in the playground. It's always nice to hear 'Hi Miss, how are you?' or '"Thanks Miss, have a wonderful day!', two phrases that I certainly hear a lot from our wonderful kids. It's also great to see so many students looking great in their uniform, taking pride in their appearance and demonstrating their connection and pride in the school. Keep it up!
I look forward to continuing to witness the great work being done by your children over the course of the year, and to seeing them shine in all the upcoming events throughout the next few terms.
If you have any concerns about your child's experience at school, please feel welcome to reach out to their Year Adviser in the first instance. I'm always happy to take or return a call (being on class means I can't always be available right away). Please feel welcome to make that call, or set up an appointment if you need to discuss important matters. It's nice to connect and work together and the door is always open (unless I'm on class or in a meeting - which is why appointments are so important).
Nandawanjing (goodbye) and best wishes.
Welcome back to the 2025 school year! It has been an incredibly exciting and enriching term so far. We have had the privilege of welcoming our new Year 7 students into the school community, and it's been a joy to watch students in other year groups transition into their new levels. These transitions are always a highlight of the year as we witness students form new friendships, develop new skills, and grow both academically and socially.
Our Wellbeing and Engagement team has run numerous events this term to support student development. The Year 7 camp was one such highlight. It was fantastic to see so many students engage fully in this experience, stepping outside of their comfort zones, building lasting friendships, and strengthening their connection to the school community. These types of experiences are always heartwarming, as it’s amazing to witness students supporting one another and growing in confidence.
We also recently hosted a Student Representative Council (SRC) networking day. This event was a true celebration of student engagement, as students came together to collaborate, share ideas, and discuss how to make a positive impact on their school community. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm and dedication of our students to make their voices heard and influence positive change. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership skills and build connections with their peers, all while working toward a common goal.
International Women’s Day was another wonderful occasion this term. It was heartening to see so many of our students actively participate and show their support for this important day. The event served as a powerful reminder of the achievements of women around the world, and it was empowering to witness the energy and passion our students displayed as they reflected on the significance of the day and what it means to them personally.
We were excited to offer Year 8 and 9 students the opportunity to participate in the We Are Gibber production. This engaging initiative focused on protective factors around alcohol use and provided students with the chance to explore these themes in a creative and meaningful way. By participating in this production, students not only enhanced their understanding of important health and wellbeing topics but also developed their communication skills and the ability to speak up and seek support when necessary.
Our school continues to prioritise supporting student attendance. We recognise that consistent attendance is a critical factor in student success, and we’ve been working closely with our Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO) and Aboriginal Attendance Officer (AAO) to promote positive attendance habits. Together, we are developing strategies to encourage all students to attend school regularly, engage in their learning, and take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. Our goal is to ensure that every student is supported on their learning journey and has the resources they need to thrive.
In the Support Unit, we’ve been particularly excited about the recent Community Access events. These events have given students the opportunity to gain hands-on, real-world experiences that are essential for building life skills. Students have participated in travel training, which has helped them develop independence and confidence when navigating public transportation. In addition, we’ve focused on budgeting skills, empowering students to manage their finances and make informed decisions. Communication skills have also been a key focus, with students practising and refining these skills in different settings. These experiences are invaluable in helping students gain the necessary skills for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Secondary Studies Team has also been working closely with a range of students exploring their transition options. This process has been critical in ensuring that students are supported and informed as they take the next steps in their educational journey. Some students will also have the opportunity to connect with our Support Teacher Transition (STT) in the coming weeks, receiving tailored support as they explore and refine their transition pathways. This support will help them make well-informed decisions about their future.
The Wellbeing, Learning and Support, and Support faculties have been working closely with students, their families, and key stakeholders to create Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLaSPs). These plans are designed to ensure that each student’s learning journey is tailored to their unique strengths, challenges, and goals. By considering the whole child, academic, emotional, and social needs, we aim to foster an environment that supports every student’s success.
These personalised plans are central to our commitment to providing individualised support, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education. They help our staff in adapting teaching strategies, resources, and interventions to meet the specific needs of each learner.
We truly value your input and believe that collaboration is key to the success of these plans. Your insights into the student’s needs, preferences, and progress, as well as your involvement in ongoing communication, will play a crucial role in refining and enhancing these plans. Together, we can ensure that the support provided aligns with the student's personal goals and learning requirements, promoting an environment where they can thrive.
We are incredibly proud of the growth and achievements of all our students this term, and we look forward to the many exciting opportunities still to come. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure every student’s success.
