AUSLAN

Welcome everyone to an exciting new year at Roxburgh Park Primary School. This year we are proud to announce the beginning of our new AUSLAN program. The dedicated RPPS staff have been busy over the holidays preparing our new AUSLAN room with displays and resources to create a wonderful learning environment. Each week, students will engage in lessons featuring video tutorials and shared learning activities. They will have opportunities to communicate with their peers using AUSLAN signing and learn how people in our deaf community communicate with each other.
First term will see students introduced to AUSLAN, learning its meaning and identifying where and how it is used in the community. They will learn basic greetings and be introduced to the AUSLAN alphabet. Students will learn hand movements and actions used when signing as well as learning how body positioning and facial expressions can be used to help communicate meaning.
To help reinforce weekly concepts, we encourage all parents to have conversations with their children about what they have learnt in class and help develop their confidence by asking them to practise their signing with you. Stay tuned for more information and get signing!
