Why did you decide to become a Teacher?
Whilst completing my education degree in Environmental Science, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the classroom. I enjoyed working with young people and took great pride in helping students to achieve their personal best, especially when I assisted them to appreciate the work and importance of Science in their lives.
How long have you been a Teacher?
I started teaching in the late 90s. Some would say that’s a long time!
What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?
I taught at Vermont Secondary College for 15 years.
What do you love most about being a Teacher?
I love the classroom dynamic, watching students collaborate and grow. I also enjoy working with colleagues to improve the experiences of young people in our community.
What has been one of your best teaching moments?
There are many moments in teaching that are rewarding. Getting to know the students from junior school and then seeing them achieve their goals and head off into further education or their chosen vocation is a source of joy. If I had to choose one, it would be receiving a letter from a student many years after teaching them to let me know they were grateful that I had played a pivotal role in their life.
What would be 3 things that you would like the students to know about you
Where is your favourite holiday destination?
Greece
What TV show/series did you last binge watch?
Madmen
If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do? That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊
I would use it to stay after hours in the Louvre and enjoy all the art work.
What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?
You deserve to achieve your dreams and they are worth working for.
Thank you Flora, and welcome to Mullauna College.
