Staff In the Spotlight

February 2025

Introducing.....Marissa Lee, Tutor Learning Initiative Tutor

Why did you decide to become a Teacher?

As my Bachelor of Arts wrapped up, I told the Careers Team at Monash, ‘I just want to keep doing what I’m doing - reading, writing, talking about what I’m reading and writing, and playing some sport occasionally.’ and they said, ‘Try teaching.’

How long have you been in the teaching game?

This is my 9th year, so good call by Monash.

What was your last place of employment - school/university or another organisation?

I have been at Ringwood Secondary College as an English Language/French teacher.

What do you love most about teaching?

Sharing my passion for language with young people. And going on camp!

What has been one of your best teaching moments?

Having a student receive a study score of 50 in my VCE subject.

What would be 3 things that you would like the students to know about you

  1. I’m an open book.
  2. I am an animal lover and activist.
  3. I love sour patch kids.

Where is your favourite holiday destination?

Maldives – the water is the most stunning, surreal colour.

What TV show/series did you last binge watch?

Shameless – I’d give it 7/10.

If you could wear Harry’s invisibility cloak for one day, where would you go and what would you do?   That’s Harry Potter’s cloak not Harry Ruff’s cloak 😊

I’m unsure if I should reveal that my first thought was ‘robbing a bank’ so I’ll say the meerkat enclosure at the zoo. I just want to pat them.

What is the one piece of ‘advice’ or the one thing that you always say to your students?

I know it is a cliché, but education is such a privilege – the world around us is a telling sign of the need for a well-rounded education. Investigate, question, and learn.

Thank you Marissa, and welcome to Mullauna College.
