Literacy 

In Reading, The Grade 5 serial read is The Grandest Book Shop in the World by Amelia Mellor and the Grade 6 serial read is Marshfield Dreams by Ralph Fletcher.

 We will: 

• Make connections to ourselves, our own experiences and human traits and problems that are shared among people of many different cultures 
• Use a variety of mentor texts to analyse and explain how the text structure, language features, images and vocabulary are used to engage the audience and clearly communicate the author’s message.
• Read, summarise and analyse texts with complex figurative and connotative language (symbolism, metaphors, similes, hyperboles etc.)

In Writing, Grade 5 will be focusing on: 

• Narrative
• Sentence level work

Grade 6 will be focusing on:

• Biography
• Memoir
• Sentence level work
