Deputy Principal/Learning and Teaching

STEM at St Michael's
We are excited to inform you of an important change to our Science Specialist Program, beginning in Term 2. To better equip our students with the skills and knowledge required for the future, our Science Specialist Program will transition into a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, with a strong emphasis on digital technologies.
STEM education fosters curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking, preparing students for a rapidly evolving world. By incorporating digital technologies, students will engage in hands-on learning experiences that enhance problem-solving skills and encourage innovation. This approach not only deepens their understanding of science concepts but also builds essential 21st-century skills, such as collaboration, coding, engineering design, and computational thinking.
Some key benefits of our new STEM program include:
- Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: Encouraging students to think critically and develop creative solutions to real-world challenges.
- Engagement Through Hands-On Learning: Using robotics, coding, and interactive projects to make learning exciting and meaningful.
- Future-Ready Skills: Equipping students with digital literacy and technological skills that are highly valued in today’s workforce.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Encouraging students to work together to design, create, and experiment in a supportive environment.
STEM classes will run at the same time as Term One science classes with the following teachers:
Mondays P-2: Mr Jordan Lo Ricco
Tuesdays 3-6: Mrs Eloise Ellis
In Semester Two, Classroom teachers will teach and assess Biological Science. STEM teachers will cover Earth and Science and Design Technologies.
Three - Six students will require their fully charged laptops every STEM lesson. P-2 students will use school IPads.
We are confident that this transition will provide exciting learning opportunities for all students and better prepare them for the future. If you have any questions about this change, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to enhance our curriculum to inspire and empower our students.
