STEM News

Dear fellow scientists,
Our Prep students are discovering how weather changes influence animal behaviour. They’ve explored the difference between hibernation, where animals sleep during the winter, and migration, a long journey to a warmer place when food becomes scarce in the cold.
Grade 1 students are learning to make physical changes to playdough by twisting, squashing, bending, and rolling it to create different models.
Grade 2 students are working in groups to create a poster showing ways to protect the Earth’s resources. Some ideas include having short showers, turning off electricity when not in use, riding a bike or walking to school, and turning off the tap while brushing your teeth. Grade 3 students are testing the solar ovens they built in groups to evaluate how well they work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsXhfpE5NCY&t=1s. How to Build a Solar Oven | The Science of Cooking | SciShow Kids.
Grade 4 students are learning to create a website with links to show how drought affects plants, animals, people, and the landscape. They are adding information to their presentations and making sure they regularly refer to their project plan. Grade 5 students are creating their own plant or animal adaptations based on their learning this term, using labels to identify the climate their creations will live in. Have a read of this book on animal adaptations https://www.getepic.com/app/read/75834.
Grade 6 students are exploring how energy is transferred and transformed to generate electricity from different sources. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEzvfE8xxNI Energy Transfer and Transformation.
