Grade 6 Community News

Our Grade 6 students have been working hard this term, embracing new and exciting learning experiences. Along the way, we’ve also enjoyed some fantastic school events that have brought extra fun and energy to our term!

Reading

The students have been learning about the Enlightenment over the last few weeks, examining influential figures like Isaac Newton, René Descartes, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. Through engaging discussions and activities, we've explored how their groundbreaking ideas, discoveries, and inventions have profoundly shaped the modern world. It's been an exciting exploration of history's impact on our present-day lives!

Writing

In Writing, the students have been focusing on RAP responses. This strategy helps them restate the question, answer it clearly, and support their thinking with evidence from the text when responding to a ‘Big Question’ about their reading. They have also been taking notes and learning to paraphrase information to demonstrate their understanding in their own words.

Harmony Day and Gala Day

It was wonderful to see so many cultures being shared with one another during our Harmony Day! The performances and activities made it a special day for everyone. A big thank you to all who took part!

Our students also participated in Gala day. It was heartwarming to see such great teamwork and participation throughout the teams. Students supported and encouraged one another, demonstrating resilience and a positive attitude in every game.

Maths

In Mathematics, we learned how to use formulas to find the area of different shapes. The students practiced calculating area and applied their learning to a range of problems, including real-life scenarios. They explored how changing the dimensions of a shape affects its area and discussed the importance of accurate measurements. In addition to this, they used their knowledge of basic facts to calculate the perimeter of various shapes, reinforcing their understanding of how length and width contribute to overall size.

Reminders

Even though hats aren't required during Term Two and Three, it's still a great idea to bring one along. Also, please ensure your child brings a drink bottle to school.

Term One holidays are now upon us and we hope everyone has a well deserved break. We will see you all back on April 22nd!
