Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,
As we finish up the term, it’s time to pause and reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had so far. This term has been filled with exciting milestones, hard work, and a great sense of community spirit.
Academic Achievements
We have finalised our School Review. It was four days of robust focus groups, discussions and observations. Our findings are with the Senior Education Improvement Leader and will be made public once she has approved them.
Our students have embraced the challenges of the term with enthusiasm and determination. From the first day back to school, we have seen remarkable progress in every class. Teachers have worked tirelessly to foster a supportive learning environment, and it’s clear that our students are thriving as a result. Observing teaching and learning in the classrooms, as part of our recent school review, highlighted the amazing work that occurs every single day in every single classroom here at Tarneit Rise! Our children consistently display positive attitudes and are committed to learning. This positive and respectful school culture fosters academic excellence and personal growth, making our school a wonderful place to teach and learn. Teaching at Tarneit Rise Primary School is explicit and designed using educational research and cognitive science. At Tarneit Rise Primary School we maximise learning time. We build a reading brain in each student through explicit direct instruction, repetition, teacher fidelity, and time on task. We know teaching reading is not just about phonics but underpinned by phonics and phonological awareness, reading fluency, vocabulary and comprehension and our curriculum is organised so students can develop fluency in all components. We also know instructional routines matter, so we ensure to teach first, reduce cognitive load, provide opportunities for students to practice more, and teach more in less time. As educators we know knowledge held in long-term memory is active and can be flexibly and effortless applied to a range of situations. The grade 3 and 5 children completed their NAPLAN tests. Our teachers and our students are nothing short of inspiring.
Extra-Curricular Successes
Term One wasn’t just about academics. We’ve also had the privilege of watching our students shine in extracurricular activities.
The grade 6 children enjoyed their sports Gala Day last week and the following teams have progressed through to the next stage of competition: Girls Tee Ball, Boys Tee Ball
Our choir is participating in the State Schools Spectacular this year and had its first combined schools practice last week.
Our Grade 1 children had the opportunity to participate in an incursion conducted by the company 'Beats from the Soul'. Students explored various skills and strategies that are essential for social and emotional development and wellbeing. This incursion links to personal and social capabilities which supports their social and emotional development as well as aligning to Respectful Relationships.
We have selected five children to participate in the French Speaking Poetry Recital competition this year. The children have been learning their poems and practising hard under the guidance and expertise of our French teachers.
We are so lucky to have so many after school clubs available for children to engage in. We are grateful for the dedicated coaches, club leaders, and staff members who support these activities and provide students with the opportunity to explore their interests and talents.

Building Strong Relationships
The sense of community within our school continues to grow stronger with each passing day. It’s been wonderful to see students, teachers, and staff come together to create a warm, welcoming environment. Special thanks to School Councillors for their ongoing support and contributions, and to all the parents who have been involved in events, volunteer opportunities, and classroom support. Your involvement makes a huge difference! I would like to mention our outgoing school council president, Naomi Strauss. Naomi has been the school council president for the past two years, and has been on school council for xx years. Naomi has been a parent at the school since it opened in 2018 and was involved in our recent school review. I would like to acknowledge Naomis, dedication and contribution to the school as a parent, school councillor and school council president.
Next term we will continue with our PLC open days and will be inviting families into the school to engage with the teaching and learning in the classrooms. More information will be provided next team and we would love to see as many families as possible.
Looking Ahead to Term Two
While it’s important to celebrate the successes of Term One, we’re also excited about what’s to come. We have just completed the school review and developed the new School Strategic Plan for the next four years. Term Two promises to bring even more opportunities for learning, growth, and fun. We look forward to new projects, more competitions, and continuing the hard work that sets our students up for success in the year ahead.
In closing, thank you to everyone. Our students, staff, and families—for your dedication, hard work, and positive energy during the first term. We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved break and come back refreshed and ready for the next chapter in our school year!
Wishing you a relaxing holiday and a wonderful start to Term Two!
Warm regards,
Nadia, Sarah, Alana, Missy, Ali, Stephen, Adam & Gemma
