Science at BPS

Term 2, Week 2

Welcome to Term 2 for all our budding scientists at BPS. I trust everyone had a restful break and is ready to Be Curious in the science room this term. I had a lovely break in Bali and even managed to read a few books by the pool. Very relaxing indeed!

The unit for this term is titled Our Powerful Body with a specific focus on different aspects of animal and human biology for each year level. Our initial lessons have been looking at characteristics of living vs non-living things. Hopefully the grade 5/6 students can introduce you to the mnemonic of MRS GREN to help remember some of these ideas.

Our 3-6's have had the chance to influence their learning this term with choices about some of the body parts and systems they want to investigate in more detail. We may have some budding neurologists and cardiologists in our midsts as the brain and heart have been a popular choice so far!

We continue to focus on science inquiry skills with students considering whether the question they are asking is 'testable' and making predictions using the prior knowledge that we have. One of our questions we have investigated was 'What will happen to our heart rate after one minute of exercise'.  Some of the students thought they were having a PE lesson instead of science!

It really is a joy to watch the students continue their journey of discovery in the science classroom. Here's to a wonderful term 2 of learning.

Yours in learning,

Tanya Stansfield
