This Week At OOPS

Year 3 and 4 Incursions

Last week our Year 3 and 4 students participated in an incursion titled Democracy, Community and Me, where they learnt about the three roles of government.  They shared their prior knowledge of what each role is responsible for and even acted out preferential voting and how the council discusses passing of laws.

Student opinions:

Issy: "I learnt about how we vote and how the council meets.  I liked how I got to use the gavel and role play passing the law for dogs to be off lead in public places."

Amira: "I liked the role play and how we were given roles to act out a council meeting and voting for Counsellor Cabbage!"

Prep Discovery

This week our Prep Discovery prompts were:

English: Can you make a k-k-kite?

Maths: Can you put the numbers back in order?

Collage: What can you create with the pattern scissors?

Construction: Can you design a playground?

Dramatic Play: What things do we do at the library?

Fine Motor: Can you do some origami?

This week's Inspectors were Parker & Aaria (PNT), Hannah & Sam (PMB), Ava & Kobi (PBF). All photos below were what our inspectors captured in our Discovery sessions. Their prompt was to "look for people who are being good friends".

Hawks Visit

On Tuesday, we got the best surprise ever...some Hawks players were coming to Old Orchard! We all got to ask them some questions to find out what life is like as a professional football player. It was really exciting to get to see them so close to us, and for them to talk to us.

The players who came were, Jack Ginnivan, Jai Newcombe, Cam Mackenzie and Bailey MacDonald.

They were so nice and it was so cool to meet them!

Staff member Beth was even more excited than the students!

Barefoot Bowls Evening

The Barefoot Bowls event on Saturday night was a great success!  We had a fantastic turn out and feedback was extremely positive.  Many parents said having a social night at the start of the year was a great idea, so we will definitely book this in again next year.

A huge thanks to our fantastic PFA members for organising such a fun event for our community to enjoy.

Doggie Play Date

Ginger hosted a morning tea with staff and their doggies last Sunday at the Dog Cafe in Boronia. It was a good chance to meet new and older pups, as well as enjoy the sunshine and each other's company. Ginger made some new friends and can't wait until the next catchup!
