SCHOOL FETE

What a great event for our school on Friday night.  Luck was on our side and the weather turned out to be perfect, which certainly helped attract an enormous crowd and the atmosphere was brilliant.  Whilst we had no way of knowing the crowd size, it certainly felt as large as any previous fete, which is brilliant.

A massive thankyou to everyone for helping us pull off a successful event, which requires a lot of time and effort.  But it’s all worth it, for the following reasons:

To raise much needed funds for the school – Unfortunately the funds we receive from government don’t allow us to do a lot of things that we’d really like to, so our fetes and concerts help us make ends meet.

In a few weeks’ time we will be able to announce the profit made from the fete, however early indications would suggest we’ve done well.   We’re thinking this because of the large crowd and because we managed all of the food ourselves, which was a massive effort, but well worth it. A big thank you to Tracey Coats who coordinated the food side of things. Cash collected at the fete was approximately $31,000.00, after all invoices are received and expenses are paid, we estimate a profit of approximately $22,000.00.  We received many generous donations from our community for which we are extremely grateful.

These funds will go towards 2 projects:

·         Updating classroom furniture – We have a number of student desks/tables that are old, looking tired and ready to be replaced.

·         Insulating the gym – Over the next few years we’re looking to improve the environment in the gym, which can get hot in summer months and very cold during winter.  The first step is to insulate under the floor and the walls. Funds from the fete will contribute to that project.

Community Building – Events like the fete have the potential to bring together staff, parents, students and members of the broader community to achieve something special.  That was certainly the case on Friday night, with a great team effort on a number of fronts resulting in a fantastic community event….something we can all be proud of.

Our staff (teachers, teacher aides, office team, canteen team & maintenance staff) and a large contingent of parent and student helpers did an outstanding job preparing for the fete and running stalls and events on the night.  We ought to say well done to our Fete Team who did so well leading the way and pulling everything together.

It was wonderful to see so many school families and members of the broader community come along to support the fete and have some fun.  The financial support received from school families and local businesses was outstanding and over the coming few weeks we’ll do what’s required to show our appreciation to others in the community that helped in various ways.

Providing a Memorable Experience for our Students – The students were all very excited during the week at school and it was wonderful seeing them have such a good time once Friday evening finally came.  We try to organise a range of activities at the fete so there is something of interest for everyone.  That was certainly achieved this year.  The fete also provided lots of opportunities for the students to learn from helping to plan and run events and we’ve received lots of positive feedback on that front over the past few days.

We were also really pleased to have so many past students attend the fete, suggesting they still feel a connection to the school, which is nice.

So thanks again to everyone for supporting the fete, that’s much appreciated.  Our next major event will be the school concert, which is scheduled for term 3 of 2026.  While that seems a fair way off, it’ll come around fast and this time next year planning for the concert will be underway.
