New Sporting Academies at Tallebudgera SS
We are excited to introduce three new sporting academies for students this year: Surfing, Touch Football, and Rugby League! These academies provide students who are already performing at a high level with an opportunity to further develop their skills, competitive engagement, and personal growth through more explicit and technical training.
In addition to physical skills, students will focus on strategy, teamwork, communication, leadership, and emotional resilience. Participation requires students to maintain high standards of behaviour and effort in the classroom.
Surfing Academy (Year 3 - 6)
Students will train with Currumbin Alley Surf School and have access to the OMBE Surf Lab in Currumbin. The Competition Squad will train at Currumbin Beach one morning per week before school and compete in two events:
- Cooly Classic (Term 2)
- Palm Beach Classic (Term 3)
Parents are responsible for transport, and coaching fees will apply.
Touch Football Academy (Year 3 - 6)
Training will be held one morning per week before school, with students preparing for two major competitions:
- SEQ Touch Competition (Term 3)
- QLD All Schools Touch Competition (Term 4) Year 3 - 4 will focus on basic skills, while Year 5 - 6 will work on advanced strategies and attack plays.
Rugby League Academy (Year 5-6)
Students will train one morning per week before school and compete in the;
- SEQ Carnival (Term 3)
Training will develop both skills and emotional resilience.
Along with the selection process the school will advise parents/carers of training dates and times.
We are excited to offer these opportunities for growth and competition!
Game On Day
As we prepare our years 5 & 6 students for the upcoming interschool gala sports season, we invite them to participate in our new initiative, Game On Day, that will focus on building positive team spirit and fostering a strong school culture. On this day, our students will not only develop their physical skills but will also learn essential life skills such as sportsmanship, self-care, teamwork, and organisation, which contribute to success both on and off the field.
Students will learn that to perform at their best, athletes need to be mentally and physically ready for each game, with strategies for preparing before the match, staying focused during the game, and recovering afterward. Creating a successful team is also about collaboration, communication, and positivity. We are encouraging our students to support one another and work together towards shared goals, fostering a team culture where everyone thrives.
Students will also learn that great athletes are defined by their character as much as their skills. We’re teaching our students that true greatness comes from attitude, effort, respect, and sportsmanship, which will help them develop as both athletes and individuals. Achieving peak performance also involves taking care of the body and mind, so students will learn the importance of sleep, nutrition, hydration, and breathwork in maximizing their potential.
Lastly, we are instilling the value of playing with passion and commitment while maintaining fairness, respect, and integrity. We want our students to embrace the competitive spirit while also understanding the importance of playing with honour.
We look forward to seeing our students grow and thrive throughout the season, and we appreciate your continued support in building a positive sports culture at Tallebudgera SS.
