ALUMNA SHARES MEMORY FROM BEAUMARIS HIGH SCHOOL'S FIRST DAY || This week, we received a heartwarming email from a Beaumaris alumna, sharing a treasured photograph of the front page of ‘The Herald’ from the very first day of Beaumaris High School in 1958, which her mother had kept. In the photo, she stands alongside her classmates, with teacher Winsome Dennis (née Cripps), an elite sprinter who competed in the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games!
The story behind this photo is even more special—at the time, classes were held at the Beaumaris Yacht Club and a hall in Black Rock, as the school building (where our school now stands) wasn't completed until 1959.
Now, as she and her classmates approach their 80th birthdays, they’re still in touch and fondly reflect on those early days of Beaumaris High School. This story is a testament to the enduring spirit of the Beaumaris community, a spirit that continues to thrive in the school community we've built at Beaumaris Secondary College.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of history with us!
