Following the Gleams

Welcome 

Welcome back to the 5/6 newsletter! The grade 5 students have been having Buddy lessons and have been enjoying the fun activities together. All of the 5/6 community have also been having an awesome time in literacy and numeracy.

 

5/6 Journalists

The amazing journalists are working on the news every two weeks, spending their own time to write updates of what’s happening in 5/6 learning community. The 5/6 journalist team includes our School Captains Read and Beth as well as Sri, Miley, Ira, Sarah, Hannah, Karina, Nathan, Bethany, Jd, Nick, Anthony,Emma, Polina and Phoebe. Some journalists do mixed stuff. Some are specialist such as Sarah and Jd who are our Sports reporters. 

 

Wellbeing and Morning circles

Every morning we have  morning circles in our home groups. Morning circles are fun to most of the students because we play games and have a smooth fun start to our days. 

 

Literacy 

Over the last few weeks in Literacy, we have been working on persuasive writing and Narrative writing. We have also been doing NAPLAN practice by doing daily dose questions that focus of grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure. 

 

Numeracy

In math over the last few weeks, we have been focusing on number properties; such as factors and multiples. We have also been working on index notation, prime and composites, and product of prime numbers. Overall, the 5/6 Community has been working hard during Maths and we have been learning a lot of new things.

 

Buddies

This week the foundation has really been enjoying the company of the grade fives. The Grade fives have done many fun activities with their prep buddies such as drawing portraits, teaching them the gleams of our school and so many other amazing activities. 

Gala Day

Softball

Gala day was last Friday. Some of the tens are doing good for now. In softball we have 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. On Friday we will be leaving again for our last gala day for this year.

 

Tennis

Dusan and Aaliya 5 wins 2 losses

Liam Scott 3 wins 1 losses

Liam ada wins 2 losses 1

Bethany wins 5 losses 3

Noah L wins 7 losses 2

Ryanie ada wins 5 losses 1

They all did really well and hopefully do better next gala day which will be help on 

2 of march 2024.

 

Cricket

On the first Gala day cricket was split into two teams Essendon Red and Essendon Black. Both teams played 6 games. Essendon Red had 1 win and 5 losses but everyone had a great time and lots of fun. On the other hand Essendon Black won 4, tied 1 and lost 1. Both teams had an amazing day.

 

Volleyball

Volleyball was also split into 2 teams. Team 1 and team 2. Team 1 played 5 games, they won 4 and lost 1. Team 2 played 6 games; they won 5 and lost 1. Both teams did great and had an awesome day. There is a second Gala day this Friday and everyone from all the sports are super excited and can’t wait.

 

Rec Sports

This week in recreational sports students did cricket practise and volleyball practise. They also got icy poles and got to go to the playground in their spare time until gala day people got back from there sports. They had fun practising the skills of the sports and having a day focus on P.E and Sports Activities. They're looking forward to finding out what sports they will be doing this week.
