Year 1/2 Learning Community News

Wellbeing

In our 1/2 learning space, we've been concentrating on our school values, teaching students how to embody them in the classroom. The Grade 1/2s were fortunate to receive a visit from the Grade 5/6s, who shared their narratives about these values!

Each morning, all classes have seamlessly embraced the Berry Street model of morning circles, setting the stage for a positive start to the day with cheerful greetings, shared values, and exciting announcements. It's been a delightful experience for everyone involved!

Inquiry - CERES Excursion

The 1/2 students as a part of our Inquiry unit went to CERES and investigated ‘Working Towards Zero Waste.’ Students participated in different activities and learnt about different ways they can help the environment and reduce their waste.

Students made their own paper, cleaned up the creek and learnt about compost & word farms.

Literacy

In Literacy every Monday, the Grade 1/2 students have been practicing writing personal recounts about their lived experiences. They shared their adventures at CERES, describing holding ‘wiggly, jiggly’ worms and making ‘sticky, wet’ paper. Additionally, they've been writing about their weekends, focusing on incorporating adjectives, nouns, and verbs. During editing time, they reread their writing to ensure their sentences make sense. The 1/2s have also been perfecting the art of drawing five-star illustrations.

In Initialit, the focus has been on learning about graphemes and phonemes, reading fluently, and incorporating a wide variety of punctuation to enhance their writing.
