Preps

Students completed a paper towel experiment.  It appeared to be a magic trick but it was definitely science.  Students placed their paper towel in a tray of water and a picture mysteriously appeared in the frame.

Grades 1 & 2

Grades 1 & 2 students are getting ready to have hermit crabs in the science room.  We have made individual information books about hermit crabs.  We learned lots of hermit crab facts and identified what our hermit crab enclosure needs to keep hermit crabs healthy.

Grades 3 & 4

Students enjoy making their animals out of modelling clay.  Two animals share the same habitat and have a symbiotic relationship where they help each other.  We have been exploring animal adaptations that help our animals survive in their habitats. Slideshows have been started to describe these symbiotic relationships.

Grades 5 & 6

Grades 5 & 6 students have been introduced to some Keystone species and why they matter. We explored the role of krill in the food chain in Antarctica and its impact on other living things if their habitat is at risk.  Scientists complete important research when working in Antarctica and we were introduced to the many technologies that scientists use in their research.  Students enjoyed making their scientific research base on an ice shelf.
