Goodbye and Welcome!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Shirley Wallis who has been teaching English to our ATAR and General classes this term.  We all know how hard she has been working to ensure our students are set up for success this year, whilst we were waiting for our international teacher to arrive from the UK.  We are so grateful, and we will all miss you!

And a huge welcome to Ms Annette Wells who landed in Australia last week!  She's been busy working with Mrs Wallis and also taken the time to visit the piggery.  We are trying not to tell her too many tales of snakes and spiders just yet!

OLNA

Congratulations to everyone who has completed the first round of OLNA this week. Thank you to our staff for giving extra support in class and in targeted small group sessions. Results will become available at the beginning of Week 9 and will be communicated to students and parents.  The diagnostics released with the results will also allow us to create targeted plans for those still working towards their OLNA.

Agricultural Science - Ms Jury

It has been a busy start to the year with the students getting involved and witnessing the AI and embryo transfers for the Poll Dorset stud sheep. The 12 ATAR students have been carrying out their sheep feed trial which includes weighing and scanning the sheep to track their progress and preforming a pasture analysis on each paddock to determine paddock availability.

The Year 11 Ag Science students have been learning about animal reproduction and breeding. They have learnt about different breeding systems in the industry and how to track and predict genetic characteristics in livestock.

The Year 11 Animal students have been learning about animal husbandry practices such as mulesing, tail docking, ear marking and tagging etc. Considering the five freedoms of animal welfare, we are learning that how, as producers, to manage livestock to make sure we are meeting their welfare needs.

The year 11 General Mathematics students have been mapping out and creating their toolbox prototypes, taking skills they have learnt in theory about area and perimeter and turning them into practical applications.
