Preschool News

Our year has started in the Preschool with many of the children enjoying being a part of a community group. The children have demonstrated a keen interest in connecting with their peers.

The social interaction that the children are engaging in during a preschool day supports each child to gain prosocial skills, to strengthen their language skills and to allow the children to learn from each other.

Currently the children are engaging in turn taking as they learn how to share. They are taking on roles in dramatic play and starting to create stories. The children are also building and problem solving together.

Of course, our outdoor area invites the children to explore. The children have been finding bugs, discovering our fairy door and following the stepping stones to see where they lead. The most popular activity so far has to be exploring what water can do - the children have learned to take turns to fill a bucket with the hose then carry the bucket back to their work. The children usually have a purpose and plan when they are filling and carrying buckets.

The children are learning about culture from each other, for example by saying good morning in different ways and learning our Acknowledgment of Country. We are seeing the benefits of social learning each day as the children accept one another, allow others to enter into their play and contribute to the game or activity. Seeing the enjoyment that the children gain from a preschool day is very rewarding and we can see that 2024 will be filled with play, learning and many group activities.
