Around the Junior School

Pre-Kinder Gardening

Pre-Kinder a couple of weeks ago had the privilege of working with Jo Howarth to plant some seeds in the Pre-Kinder garden bed.

We have been busy watering them and checking on them every day. Gertie Thomson made some great signs for the plants.

We can’t wait to taste the beans and peas.

HICES Leadership Day

Following our formal induction ceremony of Junior School Leaders in Week 4, our 12 badged leaders enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a HICES Leadership Day at St Paul’s Grammar School in Cranebrook.

Students had the opportunity to create inter-school friendships with other Year 6 leaders from schools across Sydney and surrounding areas. Facilitated by Burn Bright Australia, students learned the qualities of good leadership; leading through creativity, teamwork and courage. As part of the day our student leadership team had the opportunity to brainstorm ideas, projects and initiatives to implement in our school community, which they look forward to sharing with Mrs Milliken.

Students shared the following reflections from the day:

  1. It’s takes courage to introduce yourself to new people, but it becomes easier and more comfortable each time
  2. It feels good to lead and influence people positively
  3. It’s about ‘we’ not ‘me’
  4. With courage, come fear, although it only builds resilience
