On Monday students in Year 9, 10, 11 and 12 elective Music classes travelled to the Sydney Opera House to watch our very own Max Bloomfield play in Encore, NESA’s showcase of exemplary HSC performances and compositions. Max is the first Kinross Wolaroi student ever to be included in this prestigious concert. Max gave an exhilarating performance of his solo marimba piece “Flash”. Despite some complications with a malfunctioning mallet, the audience were amazed by Max’s brilliant performance and ability to play under pressure. Max felt “jazzed” after the performance and was looking forward to performing at the evening concert. All music students that attended left inspired and “couldn’t wait to get home and practice”.
We thank Max for his outstanding contribution to Music during his time at Kinross Wolaroi. We are so proud of everything that he has achieved!

The Year 11 and 12 drama cohort travelled to Sydney for an overnight excursion on Thursday 15 February.
After the four-hour road trip to Sydney, we checked into our hotel before heading off to the Sydney Opera House to watch RBG: Of Many, One; a play about the life of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to be appointed to the US Supreme Court, who was both a trailblazer in the American judiciary and a fierce advocate for gender equality and reproductive rights. The production chronicled Ginsburg’s wins and dissents, traced her steps forward and the steps back and brought the audience right into the room with Ruth at the most pivotal moments of her life, with the actress seamless transforming not only between ages, but also other prominent political figures throughout history. The one-woman show was a wonderful experience but also provided many learning opportunities for us to implement into our own drama works.
The next day started bright and early with a physical theatre workshop at NIDA. The workshop was an enjoyable and educational experience, which focused on developing our skills and understanding of physical theatre, working as an ensemble to create objects and scenes without verbal communication and characterisation. The workshop increased communication skills as well as team bonding through certain exercises.
After the workshop, we travelled to the Seymour Centre to watch OnStage, which is a collection of some of the best Individual and Group Major Work Projects of the 2023 Drama cohort. This provided an opportunity for us to see the many different types of projects you can choose (including performance, design, script writing and film making) and gain inspiration for our own projects. The performances and projects provided hours of discussion on the bus back to Orange.
Not only did the trip provide learning experiences and inspiration but allowed for the senior drama cohort to bond and connect as a group and provide support for each other through creative discussion and through the shared experience. This will be valuable for us moving forward as we develop performances and projects.
Overall, the excursion was an amazing experience, and I would like to thank Ms Dunkley, Mss Anthony, and Mr Holland for taking us on the excursion and making it a very enjoyable experience.
Congratulations to all of the cast members selected for our forthcoming production of Chicago!
For the past few months the Kinross Wolaroi School Orchestra have been rehearsing to play in the Cultured Youth Orchestra Project. The orchestra will be performing at 4pm this Saturday 9 March in the South Court, outside Orange City Library. Please come along to support our wonderful musicians – this free event is part of the Orange Chamber Music Festival. You can download the full program at the link below.
Our fabulous contemporary musicians took to the stage at last weekend’s Kinross Wolaroi School Country Fair, performing with plenty of flair! They entertained literally thousands of visitors throughout the day.
Congratulations to students in our Guitar Ensemble and their director Matt Arthur; congratulations also to students from Year 11 and 12 Music 1 and Year 10 Music for their wonderful performances.
Thank you also to their teachers Mrs Jo Lenton and Mr Ben Yabsley-Bell.
