Overall, we'd like to acknowledge the sportsmanship, teamwork, and school spirit that define the students of Box Hill High School. Intermediate Boys AFL

Our Intermediate Boys took to the field brimming with confidence. A team filled with Year 9’s and a couple of Year 10’s, the boys were undersized and outmatched by their opposition. But that didn’t stop them from having a crack and giving it their all.

Game 1 against Koonung was a sign of things to come, as our opposition continued to go inside 50. Our backline held strong with Thomas G and James W doing their best to repel their attacks. A highlight was our first goal of the day through some ferocious 2nd and 3rd efforts from Josh A, winning a holding the ball freekick in front of goal.

Game 2 against Blackburn again demonstrated the class difference. But the boys never gave up. Xavier B’s ruck work then turning into a midfield was sublime. Kingston U’s fight and hunger to win the footy was seriously good to watch. The silky left foot of Thomas T was a joy to watch. The boys can hold their heads up high. Demonstrating great resilience and fight, never letting their heads drop even when results didn’t go our way.

Year 7 Netball

Forty-five Year 7 students made up 5 netball teams that competed at The Rings in Ringwood on Wednesday 13 May.

The girls were represented in all three sections and showed incredible team spirit and perseverance throughout the day.

The Girls A team represented the school with flair, donning the BHHS netball dresses and sparkles in their hair and while they lost the final game to Blackburn, they showed incredible camaraderie on the court, chasing every ball and cheering each other on in every single match. The Girls B and C teams played the same way, smiling, laughing and experiencing what was a fun day of netball.

The Boys A team played competitively all day but lost to Blackburn in their final match of the day.

We also had a fabulous Mixed netball team who battled it out in the Boys B section. This team had a wonderful day of competitive netball and demonstrated wonderful camaraderie and teamwork.

A special thanks to our Year 9 student coaches who mentored our younger players both in the trials and throughout the competition day

Year 8 Netball

Chasing every ball on court, cheering on team-mates and celebrating were all part of the experience at H.E. Parker in Heathmont where Year 8 students battled it out on the Netball court.

The A team dominated in their first and last game but really worked hard for their win against Blackburn, narrowly getting across the line by a goal in the last 30 seconds of the game - a game that saw them progress to the next round.

The B team were exceptional also, winning comfortably in two of their games and drawing against Blackburn in their first. In their last game of the day, the B team were presented with an opportunity for a rematch against Blackburn and came away with a comfortable win, making it a clean sweep for the B team.

The C team were fabulous in their battles on court, not only coming away with the wins but also demonstrating camaraderie and a fabulous Box Hill High School team spirit. A special thanks to our incredible student coaches, Jessie M and Chloe G for the A team, Audrey W and Nil A for the B team and Mia H and Maddi F for the C team who attended every trial, every training and then coached all teams to what was, a hugely successful and enjoyable day for all.

The Boys teams performed valiantly, beginning the day on the right note, beating East Doncaster and Koonung comfortably 17-4 and 13-8 respectively. The boys teamwork and pace of play was a highlight as they continued to rebound from defence to offence with the speed of light.

Their final game was a tough, hard fought match against last year’s state winners, Blackburn. The boys started off by keeping it close 4-4, unfortunately the class of Blackburn prevailed and they went down 17-6.

The Boys B team also performed amazingly, winning all 3 of their games without breaking a sweat. Both teams showed true sportsmanship and humility in victory and defeat.

Shoutout to Jude B and Koby L for coaching both teams all day.

Senior Table Tennis

Our Senior Table Tennis teams took to Kilsyth Basketball Centre to take on students from East Doncaster and Blackburn.

Our Boys teams performed well beating Blackburn comfortably across all singles and doubles teams. Coming up against East Doncaster was always going to be a tough challenge. Ethan S won his singles match, unfortunately the rest could not emulate that success. It was a valiant effort from the Boys against strong opponents.

Our Girls team has made it straight through to the next round, we wish them all the best.

Senior Basketball

Intermediate Soccer

Two teams represented Box Hill at Intermediate Soccer.

Both brimming with excitement and confidence. The Boys kicked off proceedings with a comfortable 4-1 over EDSC. Seb G was a wall down in goals, not letting anything through. They then proceeded to beat Blackburn 4-1 with some incredible play by Troy D and Adam J. This set up a grand final against the strong Koonung.

A penalty awarded in the first half saw us take an early lead. Again, Seb G proving the difference down in goals as a late goal to end the game saw us win 2-0 and proceed on to the next round. Shoutout to Moiz S and Phoenix W for coaching the boys through.

The Girls started off strongly with an absolute cracker of a goal, outside the box from Jennifer H to put us up 1-0 at half time. The girls were up for the fight; their defensive pressure and the offensive weapons of Matilda S and Mikayla K saw us put the lead to 3-0. However, EDSC began to come back with 2 late goals. The experience of Harper O and Ayn S ensured we held on for a well fought victory, 3-2.

Game 2 against Blackburn, the girls tried their hardest, Claire M being a wall in defense whilst Cheyanne T provided run forward and Alissia G playing a shutdown roll on Balckburn's best player. Alas, it was to no avail as the girls went down 5-0. They never gave in though, always trying until the end whistle.

Special shoutout to Diya A, who put her hand up to goal keep before the game when no one else wanted to. having never played in goals, Diya mde some incredible saves and really gave it her all.

Well done on a great day to both teams and good luck to the Boys at the next round.

Box Hill High School congratulates all players for their effort and commitment, and looks forward to continued growth and success in future sporting events.
