On Monday 11 May, 9Z visited Quantum Victoria to participate in a physics program called Newton's Greatest Hits.
During the session, students used Pasco collision carts and measured and investigated the forces involved in different collisions.
Students also examined the implications of these forces on safety and design features.
Student feedback
Aston W: This excursion helped me build my knowledge on science physics as we have just started the unit and this refined my ability to remember the key formulas.
Chelsea W: I really enjoyed being able to work collaboratively with classmates in experiments, groupwork, and simply applications of each of Newton's laws. They each had a fun twist, requiring student effort and input which were memorable and engaging.
Lisa W: I enjoyed the thorough explanations given about the related topics and the engaging activities used to not only provide a real-life example to textbook knowledge but also serve as a mini brain break from the theoretical content. The hands-on activity in the afternoon involving smart carts was also incredibly refreshing and a new perspective into motion, acceleration, and collecting data.

On Tuesday 19 May, our 9 GAPP class travelled to Balwyn High to participate in an English Masterclass with the students from their 9 SEAL program.
The session explored the theme of ‘Perspectives’ and introduced the students to the way this concept can be explored through the lenses of VCE Literature and VCE English Language.
Working collaboratively, the Box Hill and Balwyn students investigated how to conduct ‘resistant’ readings of texts and how to effectively convey their own perspectives through debating activities.
Student feedback

Chelsea W - One takeaway I have from today's masterclass is the importance of noting down perspectives that challenge your thinking and trying to understand them, as it enhances your critical thinking and problem solving skills, gives your view a more holistic and broad stance, and paves the way for more inclusive and strong solutions to problems.
Lisa W - I enjoyed the time allocated for table groups to get to know each other or have discussions. It allows me to better connect to everyone and offer different perspectives.

Twisha S - I enjoyed learning about the differences between English literature and English language.
