Term 2 Week 8

After settling into routines during Term 1, students now begin to develop greater independence, extend their learning, and build stronger relationships with peers and teachers. This term focuses on consolidating foundation skills in literacy and numeracy, while also broadening children’s understanding of the world around them through a range of engaging subjects and activities.

Physical Education - Basketball Clinic

The basketball clinic in Kindergarten provided students with an engaging opportunity to develop fundamental movement skills, coordination, and teamwork in a supportive and fun environment. Through carefully structured activities such as warm-ups, ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, and simple games, students learnt the basics of basketball while building confidence, listening skills, and an enthusiasm for active play. Using age-appropriate equipment and adapting activities to individual abilities ensured the clinic was inclusive and safe for all. The focus remained on enjoyment, participation, and cooperative learning, making the basketball clinic a valuable addition to the Kindergarten program that fosters physical development and positive attitudes towards sport from an early age.

Mathematics

In Term 2, Kindergarten mathematics focused on building foundational numeracy skills through hands-on and engaging activities. Students practised counting forwards and backwards to 20, recognising and writing numbers, and exploring basic addition and subtraction using concrete objects like blocks and counters. Learning extended to identifying and describing simple shapes, creating and continuing patterns, and sorting and comparing objects based on size, colour, or quantity. These experiences are designed to develop mathematical thinking, problem-solving, and language, helping children gain confidence and enthusiasm in exploring numbers and relationships in their everyday world.

Science

Kindergarten science invited students to explore the natural world through observation, discussion, and simple experiments. Children learnt about plants, animals, and weather, investigating how living things grow and change. Activities such as planting seeds, watching the weather, and exploring seasonal changes help students develop curiosity and understanding of their environment. They were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, and record what they observed, fostering scientific thinking and communication. By connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences, science helps build a foundation for lifelong interest and inquiry in how the world works.

Excusion - Tuesday 16th June 2026 'Sydney Zoo'

Next term we are looking forward to sharing our excursion experience and pictures with you. The children are excited to recount what they have seen and learned, and showcasing their adventures through photographs will help bring their stories to life. Sharing these moments provides an opportunity for families to connect with classroom learning and celebrate the students’ growth and curiosity as they explore the world beyond the school.
