CLASSROOM NEWS!

P/1 Class News
It's hard to believe we are at the start of another year, with a new bunch of Prep's settling in, and a mature group of Grade 1's that have grown so much over the summer! We have had a fantastic first few days, spending time getting to know our new little people and setting up our class routines. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Casey, Jordyn, Astrid, Ryker, Cenna, Ava, Kadence and their families into our school community, and look forward to getting to know you all as the term progresses.
We have had a busy week getting into our InitiaLit and maths learning, as well as meeting all our specialist teachers and exploring these new subject areas. On Tuesday we had our first excursion on a bus across to Bridgewater to meet some of the Carlton football players, and have a play with our friends Bridgewater PS and St. Mary's. It was great to see the kids all interacting so well together.
I am so proud of how quickly the Prep's have settled into "big" school, and what fantastic role models our Grade 1 people have been. It is wonderful to see all our class members working hard to follow our school values of 'Be Kind - Work Hard - Grow Together'.
2/3 Class News
The 2/3 students have had a fantastic start to the year. The excitement of having a pencil case for the first time ever has been a big highlight to the 2's, while the 3's are thrilled to finally be with the 'big kids' in their specialist classes.
Our first few days we have been getting used to the routines of the classroom, and completing some early assessments. Our maths and InitiaLit lessons have started with a focus on place value in maths, and imaginative texts in literacy. Mrs Ferguson's literacy group have also started a Writer's Notebook, where they will be collecting bits of inspiration (including items, drawings and writing) to help generate ideas in our writing.
Finally, we are thrilled to have a new class pet joining our class as well - who just arrived yesterday. We now have a wonderfully unusual Spiny Leaf Insect (as yet unnamed) who we will be investigating further when we start looking into informative texts. We are learning to care for it and handle it appropriately this week. Check out the picture below and give it a wave next time you walk past!
4/5/6 Class News
We were so excited to be back at school after the summer break. There was lots of exciting things to start the year off, a new teacher, new friends and a new class pet... Frankie the axolotl!
The students have enjoyed getting to know Frankie and learning all about her. In week 1 we spent time researching and creating information reports about axolotl's and have learnt a lot of amazing facts about them, such as:
- Axolotl's are critically endangered.
- In the wild they can only be found in one lake outside of Mexico City.
- They come in 13 different colours.
- They can regenerate any body part including their brain, heart and skin.
Once our information reports are finished they will be displayed in our classroom. Then we would love to invite you to come in and look at our work, learn some more about axolotl's and meet Frankie.
