STEM/Inquiry

STEM

STEM lessons will continue to be taught in dedicated specialist sessions in 2025. Year 5 and 6 children will have their weekly STEM session in the Science Room, taught by Mrs. Pierce.

STEM involves the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths.

In Term One, our childen will focus on how light from a source forms shadows and can be absorbed, reflected and refracted. We will learn to classify and identify materials as transparent, opaque or translucent. Our children will examine how the colour of an object depends on the properties of the object and the colour of the light source.

Inquiry in Term One

We will continue to reinforce the Positive Start Program with a unit of study based on the development of key concepts for each cohort.

In addition to our Positive Start Program, we will run our Inquiry focuses as separate year levels.

As the Year 5 children will be heading to Sovereign Hill camp in Term One, their focus will be History, and exploring how the voices of the past shape our nation and provide lessons for the future.

The Year 6 children will be focusing on Geography by exploring global interconnections and the impact of location on people and places, in preparation for their camp to Forest Edge in Term Two.
