Year 5

Term 1

Welcome to our classroom communication page for 2025. Here you will see and learn all about what we have been up to in Year 5, as well as what is coming up over the next few weeks.

Literacy

Students will read two novels as a class this term, the first novel we have been reading is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. 

The second novel that we will start later in Term 1 is How Was That Built by Roma Agrawal. 

These novels are a part of the OCHRE Education program under Magnify Sandhurst. Students will complete novel studies looking at vocabulary and comprehension, as well as, writing and spelling that is very closely linked with our class texts. Each student has access to a copy of the texts to read along with in class. 

Students have access to borrow books through the school library. This term we will be focusing on the many aspects of reading including decoding, fluency, comprehension, and expanding vocabulary.

Mathematics

To start off the year, it has been all about Data Representation. We have been learning to construct and interpret dot plots and line graphs. Students have learnt about the importance of headings and keys, as well as learning about the distribution of data.

Canberra Camp

What an awesome four days away in Canberra for our 5/6 Camp. We have learnt so much about the history of Australia and how our democracy has been shaped over the years. It was fantastic to explore buildings such as Old and New Parliament House, The High Court, The Australian Electoral Office, The Australian War Memorial and many more. Check out our adventures below.
