Year 6

Welcome to our first Communication page for 2025!

Our new classroom looks fantastic and the Year 6s are loving having their own homeroom and eating area away from the rest of the school. We will be adding some furniture into the eating area over the next few weeks.

Classroom Timetable:

Homework Expectation:  Students are doing an excellent job of making sure that their spelling words are neatly written into their homework books each evening, practising for our spelling and dictation tests on Fridays. Well done.

Specialist days

Art - Monday 12.40-1.40m.

PE - Wednesday 10-11am

STEM - Thursday 9-10am

Religion:

We are looking at the link between our daily lives and prayer.

We have focused on the formal prayers of the church, we will be constructing some prayers of our own.

We have practised looking up scripture references from our class bibles - Luke 11:1-5 and Matthew 6:9-15.

Literacy:

Our Literacy unit focuses on the book A Ghost in My Suitcase by Gabrielle Wang. In this story, the main character, Celeste, travels to China to meet her grandmother, Por Por. Within the novel, you are exploring various grammar concepts, including independent and dependent clauses, apostrophes, and parts of speech, with a specific focus on nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs.  This novel is part of the OCHRE Education program under Magnify Sandhurst.

Maths: Throughout this term, we have been focusing on data representation, specifically column and bar graphs. We have also studied prime and composite numbers. In the upcoming weeks, we will be exploring the order of operations.

Inquiry: We have been exploring the key institutions, roles, and responsibilities of Australia's levels of government, with a focus on its democratic values and beliefs. This includes examining the role of the monarchy and the foundations of the Westminster system.

We have also been learning about the law-making process, studying how bills are proposed, debated, and passed in Parliament.

Additionally, we are exploring the roles of local, state, and federal governments.

Canberra Camp:

What a fantastic time was had on camp!

We visited so many places, Questacon, War Memorial, Institute of Sport, The High Court of Australia, Parliament House (old and new). We hope that you have heard of some great adventures! Enjoy some pictures below.

Uniform:

A reminder that students need to be wearing their school uniform each day to school. Students are also not to be wearing nail polish and only studs or sleep earrings. Thank you for your support with this.

Thank you
