Performing Arts

Primary Singers and Recorder Players

Our Singers and some recorder players from Years 4, 5 and 6 have represented our school proudly over the Christmas period. The group have rehearsed most Thursdays at school putting in a great effort.

With support from their families, students have been at Merrigum and Kyabram Carols for two evenings. This term we have also performed for our school mates at lunchtime and for our treasured elderly citizens at Sheridan. Congratulations to the dedicated young singers. You have learned so many self-discipline tactics and musical skills which will assist you in the future. I encourage you to find more musical opportunities here at Kyabram P-12 in 2025.

See you at our final performance: Kyabram Carols 19 December at 7.30 pm.

State Schools Spectacular on TV

Saturday 14 December at 7.00 pm. Channel 7 and 7 Plus. I encourage all of our school community to tune in to this documentary which gives great insight into the making of the fabulous show which involved 20 of our year 5/6 students in September this year. You may see a ‘flash’ of our Kyabram students in action as part of the mass choir but, more likely, you will see snapshot of the wonderful project which benefits thousands of Victorian students who have an interest in music. Past student, Bodhi Hawken, participated in filming this year’s Spectacular for Channel 7.

Farewell from Performing Arts Teacher Sue Meeking

After retiring last April, I remained involved with Kyabram P-12 so that the Primary Singers, Visiting Performers, Primary level musicians and some Performing Arts projects could continue. I sadly will not be continuing in this capacity next year. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff and families who have supported the Performing Arts opportunities I have been able to offer to the students over the twenty two years I have been in this role. There’s a place for everyone in the Performing Arts. I am proud that, over my time at this school I was able to introduce thousands of young people to the personal and musical skills needed to conduct themselves not just ‘on stage’ but in life where we are often required to make decisions, cope under pressure or speak with clarity and passion. I know several of our students have gone on to find careers in music.

Parents, please encourage your children, to locate music lessons and arts opportunities and encourage them to share their talents. I hope all of the students will always keep music and allied arts in their lives for pleasure and positive mental health. I know many past students remember the fun, the ability to express themselves, the challenges they met and, although it may not seem obvious, I know many have gone on to use their performing arts skills in their daily work.

Best wishes from me to our school community. Please say ‘hi’, and tell me your news, if you see me around!

Kind regards,

Sue Meeking.
