Resource Library Update

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE RESOURCE LIBRARY

As 2024 draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on another memorable year in the College Resource Library. This year has brought its own set of challenges, but it has also been a year of growth, learning, and adaptation. Together, we have navigated change, embraced new opportunities, and continued to make the library a vibrant and welcoming space for all. A standout moment this year was Booktacular: Book Week 2024—a fantastic week filled with exciting activities, creative sessions, and special visitors. From author talks to hands-on workshops, the library was buzzing with enthusiasm and energy as students immersed themselves in the magic of books. The creativity on display was inspiring, with students designing book-inspired art, participating in storytelling sessions, and discovering new visiting authors. It was truly a celebration of literature, imagination, and the power of reading! A special thanks goes out to our wonderful staff and parents. Your dedication, encouragement, and support have been essential in shaping the library’s success. Your involvement has helped make the library a true reflection of the interests and needs of our community, and we couldn’t be more grateful. As we head into the festive season, we hope you all take some time to relax, recharge, and create cherished memories with family and friends. We are excited for the new year ahead and can't wait to see all the new adventures, ideas, and learning that 2025 will bring.

From the Resource Library Team:

Jen, Karen, Meg, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

See you in 2025!

LIBRARY STAFF Professional Development - SLAV CONFERENCE 2024

On Friday 29 November, our college librarians Jen and Meg travelled to Melbourne to attend the 2024 School Library Association of Victoria (SLAV) Annual Conference. This year's event, centred around the theme “Transforming Literacy,” highlighted the vital role of school libraries in fostering diverse literacy skills, including digital literacy, information literacy, and nurturing a lifelong love of reading. The day included both morning and afternoon lecture sessions, featuring panel discussions with leading researchers, authors, MPs, and other notable figures. Attendees had the opportunity to network with fellow librarians and professionals, as well as meet with several trade exhibitors who supply resources to our school libraries. The conference was a wonderful opportunity to represent our college and connect with the SLAV team, many of whom we have worked with closely over the years. It provided valuable insights and tools to continue enhancing our resource library for the benefit of our school community.

THE COLLEGE RESOURCE LIBRARY FEATURES IN THE SLAV FYI MAGAZINE

We’re thrilled to share that the Kyabram P-12 College Resource Library has been featured in the SLAV FYI Magazine.

This incredible magazine celebrates the vital role of school libraries across the state, and we’re thrilled to have our efforts highlighted in such a prominent publication. The article shines a spotlight on our Booktacular event during Book Week 2024 and the hard work that went into making it a truly spectacular experience for our students.

We’re honoured to be recognised for the dedication and creativity of our library team, and this recognition speaks volumes about the passion and commitment we bring to fostering a love of reading and learning! A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event unforgettable, and to SLAV for showcasing the fantastic work happening in school libraries across the state.

TERM 4 STAR READER

The Star Reader Award Program pays recognition to students each term, who display outstanding reading and commitment to their learning. Well done to the winner for term 4, Wes M (5C) for his ongoing passion for reading and engagement within library classes. He has demonstrated such interest in activities within the library and continues to treat the space with the utmost respect. Congratulations Wes!

LIBRARY CLASS OF THE YEAR - 5/6E

On behalf of the College Resource Library, we are proud to announce 5/6E as the 2024 Library Class of the Year! This well-deserved recognition highlights their outstanding engagement, commitment to reading, and respectful behaviour within the library space. Throughout the year, students in 5/6E have shown a genuine enthusiasm for exploring books across all genres, consistently participating in reading challenges and discussions. Their positive attitude toward learning has fostered a vibrant and inclusive library atmosphere, making it a joy to witness their growth as readers. Additionally, their respectful and considerate manner while using the library facilities, keeping the space neat, following library rules, and encouraging others to do the same, has set a wonderful example for their peers. We commend 5/6E for their efforts and look forward to continuing to support their love of reading and learning in the years to come! Congratulations!

2024 LIBRARY MONITORS: A Year in Review and Looking Ahead.

As we near the end of the term, the College Resource Library reflects on the outstanding contributions of our Library Monitors both during Term 4, and throughout the year. This leadership initiative has proven to be an invaluable opportunity for students to develop essential skills such as responsibility, initiative, and teamwork while gaining hands-on work experience.

Library Monitors have played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our College Resource Library. Their responsibilities include shelving books, assisting fellow students in locating materials, organising engaging displays, and helping to maintain a quiet and focused environment. These tasks are vital to create a positive and productive space for all students.

The Library Monitor program has not only enhanced the library's functionality but has also empowered students to take on meaningful roles within the school community. Their dedication and commitment have made a significant impact on the overall atmosphere of the library. Looking ahead to next year, we encourage all students from Years 3 - 12, interested in becoming Library Monitors, to visit the resource library and speak with our library staff about this fantastic opportunity.
