Leading Teachers Report
End Of Term 4
As 2024 draws to a close, it is important to reflect on a tremendous year and be proud of the achievements by all our students.
For the Year 7 students, this year held special importance as they were welcomed into the South Oakleigh College family and began their secondary school journey.
The year has been littered with highlights which included our Induction Program at the start of the year, Year 7 Camp at Waratah beach, House Competitions, Interschool Sport, NAPLAN and of course, the multitude of extra-curricular activities such as the College production and our Spring Concert.
The Junior School team has been incredibly pleased with the academic and social progress all the Year 7 students have made throughout 2024, and we know this will continue next year.
Our Year 8 students were significant role models for the Year 7s in the Junior School. Many students in Year 8 immersed themselves in numerous sporting and artistic pursuits during 2024 and it was pleasing to see their continued academic development in all their subjects. I would encourage all parents and carers to take the opportunity, as our Semester 2 reports are released, to read them with your child and discuss their progress.
On Tuesday 10th December we hosted our newest students, the Year 7s of 2025, for their Orientation Day. Our Peer Support students and teachers led them through a series of activities designed to make the transition into secondary school an enjoyable one. The number of smiling faces as they departed at the end of the day was testament to the busy, but pleasing, day. We look forward to seeing them all at the start of next year.
I would like to thank the Year 7 and Year 8 leaders, Ms. Hoernel and Mr. Fernandes, for their tireless efforts throughout the year and to the Junior School assistant Mr. Bowman.
I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and relaxing Festive Season and look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.

Director of Students: Junior School
As we approach the end of another wonderful year in the Middle School, it is a great opportunity to reflect on the incredible achievements and memorable events of 2024. Our Year 9 and 10 students have excelled in so many areas, from academic pursuits to co-curricular activities, demonstrating resilience, commitment, and a strong sense of community.
Highlights of the year included the Year 9 City Experience, which provided students with the chance to explore real-world skills and teamwork in the heart of Melbourne, and the Year 10 Barista Course, where students earned their Level 1 certifications. These events, along with numerous sports, arts, and leadership opportunities, have shaped a vibrant and engaging middle school experience for all.
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr. Cochrane, Mr. Aylen, and Mrs. Carmody for their unwavering dedication and hard work in supporting our students throughout the year. Their guidance has been instrumental in fostering an environment where our students thrive both personally and academically.
As we look ahead to 2025, I encourage all students to take some time during the holiday break to reflect on their personal and academic goals. Consider what you achieved this year and think about the areas you’d like to grow in next year. Preparing for a successful 2025 might include organizing your materials, setting clear and realistic goals, or even reading a good book to keep your mind active over the holidays. Remember, the new year is a fresh start and an opportunity to build on everything you’ve learned this year.
Finally, I would like to wish all families a joyful and relaxing festive season. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another great year in 2025!
