Principal Message

Dear Families,

Camp: What a great time the year 5’s had last week at Lady Northcote Camp. So many positive experiences and so many challenges that the kids have to work through. From the giant swing to homesickness, the kids were amazing and could not have done it without the staff and volunteers that attended. Congrats to all involved and I hope everyone rested up over the weekend.

CRT’s: We use so many acronyms in education and the Casual Replacement Teacher or CRT is one of them. We have a terrific group of reliable and ready CRT’s that fill in the gaps when staff are sick, on leave or when attending PL (or professional learning). When we know a teacher will be away on consecutive days, Kristy tries her best to secure the same person for consistency, but this is not always possible. Thanks to all the CRT’s who help us keep the school running smoothly and being ready to go in a moment’s notice.

Concert Feedback: A sincere thank you to those who have taken the time to provide feedback and ideas about the concert. There were some great ideas put forward for us to consider. I don’t like saying this, but the 2022 Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VSGA) like any other industry Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) that we work under, has created unforeseen issues that as Principal, I have to manage. Camps have been impacted with the Time in Lieu (TIL) component not funded by the government or Department of Education and also the other Time in Lieu implications for ANY out of school time activity, such as a concert. Even charging families to cover the costs of TIL is not allowed by government policy. It would be wonderful if our school (and all schools) had the facilities to host a concert like this onsite to provide a greater experience. I know Dallas will review the feedback and ideas and begin preparation for more amazing performing arts opportunities.

Swimming: Don’t forget that the Prep – 2 swimming program at BSAC starts next week. It may pay to add a few more bits of fruit or snacks in the kids’ lunch box! They will be tired and hungry! Please help your young one pack their bags and prepare for this experience.

Maths: Last night staff were led through some high quality learning by Alyce Graham. We relooked at the four proficiencies in maths (Fluency, Reasoning, Problem solving and understanding) and how we can include and monitor learning dispositions. Staff are beginning to unpack some of the 16 characteristics with students, especially in Year 6.

We will continue to build on our new knowledge and apply the new learning as part of our curriculum day in Week 8 when staff will be visiting Montpellier PS to observe other teachers, watching other students respond to that teaching and learning.

Have a  great week everyone.
