Melbourne Experience Preparation and Kindness

This Monday, we held year-level meetings during mentor time. The Year 9s went over information regarding their Melbourne Experience, which departs this Sunday. They were overwhelmingly excited and ready for their urban adventure in Melbourne. Mrs Hausler and I were really impressed with their level of interest, engagement and manners and we are all excited for the week in Melbourne. They have many engaging activities ahead of them and should be looking forward to experiencing a different school week in Melbourne. I encourage them to understand other people’s perspectives and to take the opportunity to “walk in another person’s shoes” during their time in Melbourne.

The Year 7 and 8 students spent time considering what kindness looks like. We explored kindness being good for the body, as it has been shown to decrease blood pressure and cortisol, a hormone directly correlated with stress levels. Along with increasing connection with others, it also can be contagious, encouraging others to join in with their own generous deeds. Kindness is also good for the mind as it boosts levels of serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters produce feelings of satisfaction and well-being and give us a sense of feeling good. There is a positive vibe around the Middle Years Positive Education Centre at the moment and we are keen to keep this going with the Year 7 and 8 students showing kindness to each other.
