Term 2
All Year 10 students participated in work experience this term. To all our students who completed their work experience placements, well done! And to all of our students who gained employment through this experience, congratulations!
It was rewarding and heart-warming to see the smiles on faces and enthusiasm to share stories when staff visited students in their workplace. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with a few lucky students gaining employment because of the work ethic and attitude in the workplace! Work experience is a vital part of our Year 10 curriculum as it allows students the opportunity to experience work life and try different industries and jobs before having to make decisions about future pathways. It gives our students a better understanding of workplace expectations and future career options.
We would like to thank all our local employers who made this possible and provided opportunities for our students, without their support a program like this would not be possible.
Thanks also needs to be given to Suze Benson (Careers), for all her work in supporting our students throughout the entire process, your work is truly appreciated. Also, thanks to the staff who supported our students and went out to visit them in the workplace. Again, without your support a program like this would not be possible. Our focus now shifts to future pathway opportunities and students will be considering and selecting their preferred pathway for 2025.
Now that work experience is complete, our focus shifts and students start their preparations for Course Counselling (CC). CC is when students start to explore their preferred pathway and subject options for 2025. CC will formally take place in Term 3, however, the conversations with students are starting now! Student’s future aspirations will direct them to do the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or the new Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major, formerly known as VCAL.
Once students have indicated which pathway they prefer (at this stage) they are given instructions in "Becoming Familiar with the Kurnai VCE/VCEVM Handbook" which outlines subject descriptors.
If you have any questions, please email Suze: Suzanne.Benson@education.vic.gov.au (Careers) or Todd: Todd.Miller@education.vic.gov.au (Year 10 Team Leader).

Last week students from Year 9 & 10 attended a three-day hiking camp at Wilsons Prom. The camp was another great opportunity for students to put into action the content that had been explored in classes, and demonstrate understanding, learning and skills they attained. The weather took a turn on the final night with winds and slight rain, but a great time was had by all, even if feeling weary when they returned to the campus Friday afternoon. Thank you to the staff who attended and provided this opportunity for our students.
Students in concept art have completed their themed character drawings and are now working on creating artworks that capture a dramatic moment, using thick and thin black lines, solid black sections and possibly one pop of colour. They have also started to work on brown paper art, exploring cropping and colour blending with pencils.
Students in 3D Art have been making a building structure that has been damaged by a ‘dramatic’ event. Some of these events include an apocalypse, an alien attack, a rat infestation, a cultist party, a fire, and an abandoned hut, to name a few. They have used a variety of materials, such as: construction foam, hot glue, wooden paddle pop sticks, small match sticks without the ends, wadding, paper, paint, magi-clay, sticks and more.
