I just wandered the Year 9 locker area and school yard at lunchtime with some pleasing observations. Locker area clean, students enjoying a few moments of sunshine avoiding the mud patch - so that they’re not asked to contact home to change, groups of friends competing against each other in library games, half of the year level in the Drama room dancing to the beat of this popular lunchtime activity, while two or three insisted they deserved an icy-pole for having a good week. The proof is in their KPA Green Compass feedback from school staff.

During Week 6, Year 9 students keenly participated in Career Education with a Morrisby Profiling of their skills, interests, work styles, employability skills to name a few. Fifteen professionals from various industries visited our campus to discuss career pathways with students. The release of results will provide an enjoyable and informed opportunity for students, families and teachers to discuss possible job options for their future.

Congratulations to the following students who achieved a Learning Behaviour Update score of 3.5 and above.

Art

The year 9s have been learning about plastic waste and landfill. They are currently working in small groups to make a sculpture out of plastic on something that is affected by plastic waste, such as animals, vegetation and people.

Students in concept art have completed their themed character drawings and are now working on creating artworks that capture a dramatic moment, using thick and thin black lines, solid black sections and possibly one pop of colour. They have also started to work on brown paper art, exploring cropping and colour blending with pencils.

Students in 3D Art have been making a building structure that has been damaged by a ‘dramatic’ event. Some of these events include an apocalypse, an alien attack, a rat infestation, a cultist party, a fire, and an abandoned hut, to name a few. They have used a variety of materials, such as: construction foam, hot glue, wooden paddle pop sticks, small match sticks without the ends, wadding, paper, paint, magi-clay, sticks and more.
