STORYTIME - Tuesdays at 3:10pm

St JOHN'S AMBULANCE AUSTRALIA FIRST AID in SCHOOLS PROGRAM
On Tuesday all our students participated in the St John’s Ambulance Australian First Aid in Schools Program.
Our Prep students participated in ‘Storytime’, where through a storybook, the children saw how Johnny Bear identified an emergency, put the Danger, Response and Send for help strategy into action and called 000. The Preps learnt the first aid chant that will help them remember what to do in an emergency.
Our Year 1 and Year 2 students learnt about how to spot DANGERS in an emergency, RESPOND accordingly and SEND for help. They were guided on what number to call and acted out a scenario to get them comfortable calling 000 in real life. Students played a fun and interactive game as teams completed a first aid quiz. By the end of the program, the Year 1 and Year 2 students walked away having learnt the essential skills and gained the knowledge which they can call upon in an emergency situation.
Our Year 3 and Year 4 students revised ‘DRS’ which involved assessing for dangers, obtaining a response and calling 000. The main focus of the module was demonstrating how to check the airway and breathing and how to place a patient into the recovery position. They then applied this knowledge in an interactive game based on the DRSAB action plan.
Our Year 5 and Year 6 students program involved a practical CPR component, guiding students through how to perform CPR and when it is required in a First Aid situation. Students also participated in group problem-solving scenarios based on a variety of first aid situations allowing them to apply their knowledge.
CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION - Mrs Jacqi Braun (PE Teacher)
Take your marks, set, go!
On Wednesday May 1st, 27 students from Years 3 - 6 travelled to Bald Hill Park to participate in the HOLT District Cross Country competition. We were fortunate enough to have perfect conditions for running. Our students all ran their best with many placing in the top 20 for their age group. Special mentions go to Isaac Soans who came 9th in the U11 Boys 3km race, and Olivia Trevaks who placed 10th in the U11 Girls 3km race. Both Isaac and Olivia will be the reserves for the upcoming Beachside District competition later this month. Congratulations to all our students for their fantastic display of skill, technique and sportsmanship.
