YEAR 2

FROM THE CLASSROOM

As we approach the end of the term, our Year 2 students have continued to show enthusiasm and persistence across all areas of learning. 

In Literacy, students have been strengthening their reading and spelling skills by revising and exploring different ways to represent the /or/ and /ar/ sounds. They have also continued developing their fluency and writing skills by identifying language features and experimenting with different ways to make their writing engaging for readers. 

In Mathematics, students have begun exploring Data and Statistics. They have been learning how to collect information, organise it using tally marks and graphs, and interpret what their data tells them. Students have enjoyed asking questions, conducting surveys and sharing their findings.  

During Wellbeing lessons, students have reflected on the importance of respect, inclusion and learning from mistakes. They have also discussed strategies to help manage their emotions and considered how their actions can positively impact others. 

As part of our Inquiry learning, students have continued to think about their role in the community and how they can contribute to making it a positive place for everyone. They have explored ways to care for their environment and considered how small actions can make a big difference.

• We are learning to independently apply our learning to writing our own information report.

• We are learning to review and apply the maths strategies and concepts we have learned this term.

• We are learning to think about our learning about the local community and communicate our understanding. 

WELLBEING 

• We are learning to identify and use strategies that help us regulate our emotions and be ready to learn.

REMINDERS  

A friendly reminder about morning arrival times 

A big thank you to our families for supporting students to arrive at school on time. We have noticed a wonderful improvement in punctuality, which has helped create a calm and settled start to the day with fewer interruptions to learning. As a reminder, students should be in their classroom and ready to learn by 8:45am each morning.  

STEM  

In Week 10, students will be enjoying a small amount of popcorn in STEM as a conclusion to our Rube Goldberg Machine unit. Please let Lauren Newton know at Lauren.Newton@education.vic.gov.au if you DO NOT want your child to have a handful of popcorn.

Early Finish Reminder 

A friendly reminder that students will finish school early at 2:30pm on Friday, 26 June. Please ensure arrangements have been made for your child to be collected on time.
