Celebrations
5T have loved having Miss Callghan as their student teacher for the last 2 weeks. Sadly we say goodbye on Tuesday, but we are grateful that she has been helping us the last 3 weeks.
Feast of Sacred Heart
On Friday, the whole school came together to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We began with a beautiful Mass led by Father Martin, followed by a range of engaging rotations organised by Ms Maloney.
It was a wonderful day of celebration, with students enjoying the opportunity to participate in activities outside the classroom and proudly wear their house colours. Days like these are a special reminder of the joy of community and the importance of coming together as a school.
A huge shoutout to our wonderful year 6 leaders who organised and ran the day with Ms Maloney.
Year 5
Literacy
Our Year 5 students have begun our knowledge-rich curriculum for the remainder of Term 2, where they are building background knowledge and making strong connections between our Topic unit Changing the Earth’s Surface and our Literacy learning.
Each lesson includes a daily review of word reading and vocabulary, along with morphology, fluency practice, and comprehension questions to deepen understanding. Students are also strengthening their writing skills with a focus on using apostrophes for singular and plural possession. It has been fantastic to see their growing confidence as they connect ideas across learning areas and develop more precise and purposeful writing.
Maths
In Mathematics, our Year 5 students have been exploring translation and shapes. They have been learning how shapes can move across a grid without changing size or orientation, developing a strong understanding of position and movement.
Students have also been investigating the properties of different shapes, strengthening their ability to identify, describe, and classify them. It has been great to see their growing confidence as they use precise mathematical language and apply their understanding in practical, hands-on activities.
Times Table Rockstars
Please make sure all students are playing TTRS each night for 5–10 minutes. Building automaticity in multiplication is an extremely important foundational skill for success in Maths. Regular practice helps strengthen recall and supports confidence when working with more complex number concepts.
Topic
Our Year 5 students have been exploring the Earth’s surface and how processes such as erosion, weathering, and deposition can create new landforms or change and even destroy existing ones. On Monday, they conducted an experiment using water and sand to observe how water can erode structures and how displaced particles are carried and deposited to form new landforms further away. A hands‑on example of surface change.
Year 6
Topic
This week, students began a science investigation with the aim of discovering how different environmental conditions affect the growth of bread mould. They will be testing three variables across separate experiments: temperature, moisture, and light.
Over the next 7–10 days, students will observe each bread sample and record how much mould has grown. To keep observations consistent, they will describe mould growth using the following categories:
-Fully covered
-Half covered
-Different spots around the classroom for different temperature and sun exposure
Lightening Premiership
Netball
On Thursday, our Year 5/6 girls represented the school at the Netball Lightning Premiership at Dunkin McKinnon. The team had an outstanding day, remaining undefeated throughout the rounds and demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship in every game.
The girls played with determination and composure under pressure, supporting one another both on and off the court. After a series of strong performances, they progressed all the way through to the Grand Final. In a thrilling and closely contested match against SJA, the team narrowly went down by just one goal.
Despite the close result, the girls should be incredibly proud of their effort, attitude, and the way they represented the school. It was a fantastic day of netball and a memorable achievement for the team.
Football
Last Friday, a group of Year 5 and 6 boys headed to Basil Reserve to compete in the Footy Lightning Premiership. In our first game, we played against St Joseph’s Elsternwick. It was a close match, but we narrowly lost by about six points. Although we were disappointed, it motivated us to push even harder in the next game.
In the second game, we faced St Finbar’s. Once again, it was a tight contest, but we were defeated by four points, which meant we missed out on making the finals. This was tough for the team, especially since we won the premiership last year, but we stayed determined and focused on finishing the day strongly.
In our third and final game, the boys came out firing and secured a fantastic win by 40 points, lifting everyone’s spirits and ending the day on a high. It was a great example of team resilience and perseverance.
A big thank you to Mr Jaynes, Mr Homer, Byron, and Max for their support throughout the day and for making the experience possible.

Feast of the Sacred Heart
On Friday, Year 6 ran a series of fun rotations that included a dance party, obstacle course, relay race, arts and crafts, and Silly Salmon. I was in charge of the obstacle course. Students began by crawling through a tunnel before hopping over an agility ladder. After that, they completed an animal‑walk section, then ran across stepping stones to reach the next cone. From there, they balanced a beanbag on their head while walking to another cone, followed by trying to throw a ball into a basket.
Once they scored, they sprinted to the hurdles and ran through them to finish the course.
Tao Jucker
Just a friendly reminder that students are only to wear small hoops or stud earrings to school, and please make sure they are in the correct sport uniform or full school uniform on the appropriate days. This helps keep everyone safe and supports our uniform expectations.
