A huge shoutout to Elwood and Isabelle for their amazing efforts at the Southern Metro Region Cross Country. We are so proud of your determination, resilience, and the way you represented our school. Incredible effort from both of you — well done, superstars of cross country.

We love our run club on Friday mornings. How lucky are we to have had Della join us on our morning run.

Year 3

English

In English, our Year 3 students have been developing their factual recount writing through their learning from Topic studies and the class novel Yirra and Her Deadly Dog Demon. They have focused on writing a third body paragraph and a conclusion, using subordinating conjunctions to extend their ideas and improve sentence structure.

Students have also been strengthening their fine motor skills and writing fluency through regular Typing Club sessions. It has been wonderful to see their confidence as writers continue to grow as they apply their knowledge of language and structure to produce thoughtful, well-developed recounts and their writing assessments.

Maths

In Mathematics, our Year 3 students have been developing their understanding of subtraction with 2 and 3 digit numbers. They have been using concrete materials such as Base 10 blocks to support their thinking and build a strong understanding of place value.

By physically representing numbers, students are becoming more confident in regrouping and solving subtraction problems accurately. It has been wonderful to see their growing understanding of how place value helps them break numbers apart and work through more complex calculations with success.

Year 4

4B have had a brilliant week - great to see them finish the Term strongly

English

In English, our Year 4 students have been having fun exploring the suffix -ish, meaning “sort of like,” and discovering how it can change the meaning of words in creative and interesting ways. For example, childish means behaving a bit like a child, and feverish means feeling like you have a fever.

They have also been working hard on sentence expansion, moving beyond simple sentences to build more detailed and engaging writing.

In Writing, students have been developing the third body paragraph of their factual recount about the brave Eora warrior Pemulwuy, focusing on his leadership and resistance against the Sydney colonists in 1792. They have also been learning how to write strong conclusions that neatly summarise their ideas and bring their informative articles to a clear and powerful finish.

Maths

In Mathematics, our Year 4 students have been diving into the world of maps and grid references, learning how to pinpoint exact locations with accuracy and confidence. They have been developing their skills in using a grid system to locate and identify specific places on a map.

Students have also enjoyed the challenge of using grid references to mark and label key locations, strengthening their accuracy and spatial awareness along the way. To add to the excitement, they have been giving and following directions to “travel” between places on a grid map, building their confidence with positional language and map-reading skills as they go.

Topic

In Topic, our Year 4 students are learning about the Age of Exploration. They are developing their understanding of what the Age of Explorers was, why it occurred, and how it changed the world.

Students are also learning about the resources needed for exploration, as well as the skills required for long sea voyages, including navigation and survival at sea. It has been wonderful to see their growing understanding of how exploration shaped history and connected the world in new ways.

Feast Of The Sacred Heart

On Friday, the whole school came together to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We began with a beautiful Mass led by Father Martin, followed by a range of engaging rotations organised by Ms Maloney.

It was a wonderful day of celebration, with students enjoying the opportunity to participate in activities outside the classroom and proudly wear their house colours. Days like these are a special reminder of the joy of community and the importance of coming together as a school.

A huge shout of to our Year 6 students who helped organise and run the day.

Just a friendly reminder that students are only to wear small hoops or stud earrings to school, and please make sure they are in the correct sport uniform or full school uniform on the appropriate days. This helps keep everyone safe and supports our uniform expectations.
